Everybody says it's just like Robin Hood

Chilli.s - that's the video I linked to, of which you posted. Yes, in it, he says "rock n roll" but... also the mouth doesn't match the lyric. Bolan is being dubbed over, it seems, as when he pulls away from the microphone, it's the same level / volume as the rest of the song, yet his mouth is almost closed for "roll" even though he's far from the mic. And it pans to the drummer, so you can't tell what he is doing.

At 33 seconds, he opens his mouth to the microphone but it's silent. Next verse is the same thing. It seems like every time he pulls away, stops moving his mouth, he's still singing. 2:14 he is fully away from the microphone and into his backwards dancing, head down, playing guitar, "roll" is still playing.

Hidden wire somewhere or something else?

But I get the comparison... it's definitely "rock n roll" in this version.

Didn't Billy Joel once say "it's still rock n roll to me"???

Next question becomes "is this part of a crazy Mandela Effect" if we all hear Robin Hood?
This talk of a “Mandela effect” really annoys me. There’s no such thing. Nobody thinks he died in prison. He became fucking president for fuck sake. He didn’t do that posthumously. He attended stadium concerts celebrating his release. He toured the fucking world. He was awarded the fucking Nobel Peace Prize three years after his release. He wrote books. He even had BBC One's Ground Force, with Tommy Walsh and Charlie Dimmock, give his fucking garden a make over for prime time TV. If you think he died in prison you’re a fucking moron.

Cheers - I wondered about this when I read about the Mandela effect. It actually made me wonder whether it was a gaslighting attempt to mess with everyone’s heads til someone could write a paper called “The ‘Mandela Effect’ Effect” about how you could change people’s memories over the internet by means of repeating nonsense a sufficient number of times.

A bit like how everyone pretends they can remember exactly where they were when Barack Obama was assassinated.

they sound great in that clip - much heavier than on recording - wouldve been a great live gig
I've just watched that again just to verify it's just like rock n roll. Live sound instruments but a vocal overdub/backing track? not sure.

theres the 1234 and yeah at the start thats defo live! i think that german music lauden show is always live - but credit to him, shows how good a singer he is live, sounds like the record!

danny la rouge - I wasn't trying to anger anyone with the Mandela question. I know he didn't die in prison and he was a tenured president. My comment was solely based on the "thought" of how one group of people say one thing about a particular incident, when others think not. I wasn't looking to start anything wrong.

The whole Obama being assassinated... Every year he's alive since his presidency, I wonder why no one thought to snipe him. When Trump got into office, I wondered why none of his idiot supporters haven't tried to kill him yet... it takes one loose cannon...

I know. It’s nothing against you. It’s not your fault. You didn’t start the Mandela Effect meme. Unless you did. In which case fuck you and everything you love.

I wish my photoshop skills were on that type of level! 😁 I should try for one of those digital token things (NFT? DFT? the new "pay me for my viral work suckers" bitcoin thing) and get paid for it then. Haha.

Came across a good description of T-Rex recently:

Marc shat out the last pixie (Steve Peregrine Took), got a new sidekick (Mickey Finn) and started writing cleverly catchy lyrics to go with a now pounding beat but still lightweight overall sound. With his chirruping, little boy lost vocals as the icing on the cake, and rudimentary but effective guitar playing, the overall effect was startling – as though Bo Diddley and Bob Dylan had been genetically melded, infantilised and rewritten in an attempt to reach pre-school play groups. The lyrics were trite but ingenious.

Did not expect to reanimate this thread from the dead after I left my comment a few months ago, but here we are.

Anyways, I was a bit brash with my original comment. No one is really "objectively wrong" for thinking it's one or the other. However I stand by the fact that it's Robin Hood and not the alternative.

I think the issue with the line is that Bolan doesn't enunciate the consonants that would differentiate it from "Rock n' Roll" and "Robin Hood" very well. Marc Bolan sings the line to where the clearest you get would be the sounds, Rah, n, and oo. Which could be heard as "Rah(ck) n(') (R)oo(ll)" or "Rah(bi)n (h)oo(d)". So it could be either.

However, after some digging someone made a "Isolated Vocals" version of the song, (Apologies if there's a better way to post Hyperlinks, I'm not too familiar with the site) In this upload to me, it sounds like Robin Hood more clearly.

I think you're being too soft, people who think it's rock'n'roll are both objectively wrong and disgusting sinners who have fallen far from the grace of God.
