Everton 09/10 thread

Nothing to do with the Cup Winners Cup. The Uefa Cup was previously known as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Changed name in the early 70s.

And iirc it wasn't recognised teams that played at first but combined teams froma city v another... a tad strange.

Looking good. :D

Anyone know why rivals.net died so suddenly?

http://www.nma.co.uk/sky-gives-rivalsnet-football-community-the-boot/3002064.article

Sky has closed Rivals.net, its online football community, blaming its poor commercial performance.

The media giant shut the network of fan sites for all 92 football clubs, including Manchester United’s United We Stand and Everton’s When Skies Are Grey, without prior warning to members.

Visitors to any of the sites are met with the message ‘Rivals.net is currently unavailable’.

A Sky spokesman told new media age the decision was due to a lack of revenue from the network, which it bought as part its acquisition of 365 Media Group in 2007.

He said, “Sky is constantly reviewing the performance of its properties and unfortunately Rivals.net wasn’t performing as well as we’d hoped. Therefore, the decision was made to close it.”

The decision doesn’t affect football portal Football365, part of the 365 Group.

The news comes as Daily Mirror has launched a standalone football site to coincide with the new Premiership season in August.

The site will offer breaking news, opinions and thousands of images from Mirror Group’s archive, including unseen shots of football legends such as Bobby Moore and George Best.

Video interviews of football pundits such as Sir Trevor Brooking and World Cup winner George Cohen will be available, as well as online exclusive videos and written content from Mirror columnists like Stan Collymore and Mark Lawrenson.

Mark Hollinshead, MD of Mirror Group Newspapers, said, “Our firm intention is to fully capture the passion of football and its fans. Mirror Football will be a uniquely engaging website and an instant smash hit with a very broad and knowledgeable audience.”

Trinity Mirror, Daily Mirror’s owner, reported a 13% annual drop in group digital revenues for the period ending 26 April 2009.

The season long loan deal for Jo is confirmed, and Kyle Naughton is in talks with Everton after Sheffield Utd accepted a bid for him.

Meanwhile some wags on Toffeeweb are claiming the Lescott deal is currently £15 million, Micah Richards and the Jo loan.

I've heard that rumour. Would be quite a good deal I reckon.

I dunno, there is a lot of shite in this league now... though Europe will perhaps be a bit of a stretch.

You won't get in the top 5 - think Spurs will get 6th - Villa 7th.

You might get 8th but I really think as long as teams defend well against you lot on set peices, you'll struggle to get 3 points.

Villa have been weakened far more than we have, and Spurs usually achieve a position lower than predicted come the end of the season.

If we can avoid injuries, keep our players, and if Moyes can add one or two better players (ie: better than Osman and Hibbert) then we should do well.

There may be a cup hangover. Will moyes, cahill, arteta and lescott be looking at joining a club that can challenge for greater things than 8th place?

Could go even more stale at everton.

Even more stale? We have been top six for three seasons, and had one of our best seasons for years last time out, despite the injury problems. You never know, if we push on a bit we could join the other stale clubs in the Champions League.

The style of football isn't great to watch though is it? ;)

Everton will wear the new striking all black design for the first time away at Coventry City for a pre-season testimonial match on 2 August.

Then just days later on 6 August it will be officially launched using a specially commissioned Haka. Watch this space on how you can be part of the Haka and be one of the first Evertonians to wear the new away kit

Any of you guys going for that?
