Everton 08/09 Plus Europe

Is it Premier League rules that say Jo couldn't play? I thought it was agreed between the two clubs.

Fairly sure that the Premier League doesn't allow loan players to play against their parent club. In the Football League this isn't the case, though the agreement is almost always there.

Could be wrong though

Phil Jagielka likely to miss rest of the season, doubtful for the Final

Fuck's sake, how many bad injuries is that now?!

The OS states he is definately out for the final and say its an almost identical injury to Arteta's. They dont even set a date when he will be back.

Utterly gutted for him, he has been our player of the season by miles and after the delights of last weekend we now see this. That said, the team have stepped up a gear after every one of these injuries but surely this is too much, even for them.

I suppose Yobo's not a bad replacement but he's not Jags :(

I'm a bit nervous about Fulham overtaking us tbh

He has to step up now and be as good as he suggests he can be, instead of making daft errors.

That said, I would also like to see Rodwell given a run-in (instead of Lescott, who surely has to be rested now) at centre half where Moyes reckons his best position is. We are definately in Europe so Moyes has to focus on the Cup Final - get Gosling more games, get Vaughan back match fit (that is, if his leg doesnt fall off again), get Castillo a good run, ffs even let Nash have a pop. Of course the problem is that, as the Toffeeweb squad page demonstrates, we have a small squad with about a third of it, and our best third, out injured long-term (plus lots of them are playing with injuries as well).

IMHO for next season Moyes needs to keep as many of the current squad as possible, apart from Shandy Andy of course, and get in reinforcements. They dont have to be straight into the first-team players (IMHO we only really need an anti-Hibbert and someone to permanently take Osman's place in midfield, ideally that Moutinho) but we do need a reserve, you cant expect to have loan players and kids fill the gap every time.

Yeah, the first XI is a bloody good one when all fit but we need a squad.

And fewer shit injuries

The squad bit is the important one - after all, you cant legislate for injuries given that any club affected by the injuries we have had (to use the shite as an example, imagine Torres, Gerrard and Skrtel removed) would be similarly affected, and it doesnt look like a training/fitness issue even in Yak's case.

As an aside (and not taking the piss), is that Simon Cox that good? He seems to score loads including two today, and (0:57 onwards).

Re: Cox's two goals today (yes I was there :( )

His first came from a mental cock up between our keeper and centre half - keeper comes charging out to claim the ball, either doesn't call or the call goes unheard, collides with centre half leaving both in a crumpled heap on the floor and Cox puts it into an empty net from the edge of the area. Good finish but not taxing for any striker worth his salt.

Second was another decent finish from 12 yards or so.

He's scored a lot of goals in a fucking appalling side so has to be worth a shot higher up the league. Dunno about the Prem though

WSAG outdo themselves with this preview of the Sunderland away game:

Why do we need Owen anyway, when we've got Louis Saha? How many husks of their former selves do we actually require? Or do we actually see the big-betting beaut as a replacement for Andy van der Meyde? The Dutchman is leaving the Blues in the summer, with his agent saying that he is "looking for a new challenge."
Has he considered playing football?

You'd think the least that the deviant Dutchman could do is offer up his FA Cup tickets to some supporters. Saying that, the fucker's probably roached them in lieu of a Thompson's Local.

Marijuana jokes, man, this shit just gets more edgy by the day.

:D:D:D

One of the most complete Everton victories of recent years sees Sunderland beaten 2-0. As easy a win as I have ever seen.

saw the final half hour, my god Sunderland were poor. Everton were good but it was a stroll without really getting out of second gear

I try and avoid the Cat & Wheel tbh :D

Usually either the Bishops or Hobgoblin, though today I caught it in the White Hart on Clifton Triangle

The Guardian's match report suggests that being hopelessly deluded may be a trait shared by mackems, as well as the barcodes:

Rumour has it that, by then, Louis van Gaal or Steve McClaren could be installed in the manager's office – providing, of course, relegation is avoided.

Yes, McClaren is going to leave the place of his redemption for Sunderland. As for Louis van Gaal, wtf? Why would he manage that shower?

I tend to watch mostly in the Cat, tho I have been going off it recently. Never liked the hobgoblin tho. Bishops seems ok but feels a bit 'chainy', i.e. the bogs are clean.

Where you watching the final?

dunno yet, got a posse who are up for watching it somewhere.

The Hobgoblin is rubbish now, seems to have a new landlord and it's shit. Bishops is 'chainy' but it has the advantage of being able to show multiple different events so I tend to end up in there for most football/cricket (and the fact that I'm lazy and it's five mins from my house!)

Christ, they're nearly as bad as Spuds.

From today's Mail:

EXCLUSIVE: Bayern Munich to battle Sunderland for AZ coach Van Gaal

Bayern Munich have cast a huge shadow over Sunderland's hopes of landing Louis van Gaal after admitting they want the former Barcelona boss to take over at the Allianz Arena.

hmm... champions league with az, champions league with bayern, or sunderland?

We might go to a campsite near Cheddar to watch it. Let me know where you go tho in case we stay in Bris.

Meanwhile the Moyes - Kenwright love-in continues:

Win for Chelsea would tonight be good for Everton with the final 3 days before the FA cup final.

I saw a load of Barca fans at Bristol Temple Meads at lunchtime. Wonder if they got the boat over to Plymouth. Or where just hopelessly lost.

In between the madness of Survival Sunday, Everton do what they havent done for ages (since 1966) and beat Fulham.
