Eurovision: Your Country Needs You (19:10 03/01/09)

Why does it have to be Tolstoy?

Is everything you watch to the standard of Tolstoy?

I didn't say it had to be now did I?

And while critising it I do remind myself of how much trash Sci Fi I enjoy.

But the whole gaudy spectacle offends me somehow. It's not too long till we have creaky wogan crying when we come last when some eastern european song wins through a rare show of balkan unity where they all vote for each other. Bah I say, bah

*yawn*

Cheap cynicism is cheap, and lazy.

It is dead easy to drop comments about vacuity and disengagement, but only has the effect of making you look vacuous and disengaged yourself.

It would be so easy to trash the trashy things that you like. But it would just be a massive waste of time.

BTW, that might sound harsh, but it is what I think. I don't want to have an argument with you, or anything.

So much so that I am going to go now, and just leave it.

because I'm already well aware of the standards prevalent in speculative fiction be it tele or written.

If my opinion counts as cheap cynicism then so be it, I don't like cheese, I don't want feathers on that costume and flamboyance aint my thing.

When will Wogan die? he is a vampire imo.

...Turkey have taken one step back from the credible rock entry they put forward last year. Theyve gone for "Dum Tek Tek", which is a good old return to Eurovision onomataepia....and it's too early in the morning for me to spell check that...anyhoo the link is
Is that a diamante kind of variation on a theme of chastity belt thing she's wearing over her jeans?

I love Eurovision proper, but I can never be bothered about the 'find the entry' because even if we have something not too bad - like last year - we're too unpopular to garner many points.
Mind you, they played a bit of this year's entry on BBC Breakfast this morning, and I could not believe how bad it was. Terrible song, and the 'singer' makes more noise breathing in than she does in vocalising...
