Eurovision UK tonight

For all the haters, I like it because it is a Europe wide contest, with NO advertising (that I can think of, anyway), No massive record contracts for the winners, almost all amateurs from across Europe coming together to sing the best Europop that can possibly be made. It truly is a vision for Europe.

It is lots of fun.

I think Ireland will actually win with that penis faced chicken. Europeans do like a wacky sense of humour. Apparently.

I thought the Revelations were good too! And Gayle. It must have been fixed! :)

I thought The Revelations were brilliant.

This is coming from a person whose most seen band is The Pipettes. I have seen then about 9-10 times.

*Eurovision geek mode*

Most countries do have ad breaks in that long intermission in the middle.

A few countries like us get the show. For example that Riverdance nonsense. Most of Europe didn't see that.

There is no corporate sponsorship or anything like that though.

Can you think of any other Europe wide competition that is similar?

Is that Yerrovishen crap still doing the rounds. I thought that that finished at about the time when Yogi Bear died. I wonder if the Times has an obit ready for when it really does come to an end. Some poor journalist will have to write something good about it.

We should demand a referendum on whether or not we stay in the European Song Contest. I will be campaigning for a NO vote.

I like that kind of music. It makes me want to dance.

*pulls shapes*

But I will be honest. The Revelations had a redhead and a blonde swedish woman in there. It swayed me.
They were fit but not so good vocally. Shame, as I also pull shapes so I expected to like them more.

Its not about being good vocally, IMO. Look at the rest of Eurovision!

But it has to be said, they were not Eurovision enough. I just wanted to see a bunch of normal girls get in there, instead of an ex pop star, an x factor finalist, etc etc.

I like what it used to be. Abba were worthy winners in 1974 with "Waterloo", Dana won it in 1970 for Ireland with "All Kinds of Everything" (and boy was she a looker) and even Bucks Fizz had a good song in 1981 with "Making Your Mind Up."

Now everyone just votes for their neighbours, song quality doesn't come into it.

BTW, here's Dana's comment on the turkey (from Wikipedia);

Eurosong 2008 controversy

Dana was a judge on Eurosong 2008 which decided which entry to send to Eurovision Song Contest 2008 and became headline news when she loudly complained about the winning entry Dustin the Turkey and commented that Ireland should withdraw from the contest, instead of sending Dustin.
