Eurovision 2006: the Finnish entry

PacificOcean said:
Am I the only person who is going to be patriotic and wave the flag for the UK, despite it being utter crap?
Yes. We're all Finns now.

V good tip about the subtitles from Pootle too - for added joy ;)

Any idea how to activate the subtitles? :o

Is this something I can do by 'pressing the red button... -NOW!' ...?

oh come on, would you cheer this guy on ?
(a previous UK runner-up)

I might well have cheered on Sandie Shaw - IF I hadn't only been 7 at the time and IF we'd been rich enough to own a TV and IF my parents would have allowed anything other than "The Home Service" and "The Third Programme" on at home on the one "wireless" in the house - my dad's valve tuner / Leak amplifier (radios 4 and 3) :D :D

I watch Eurovision EVERY year, without fail.

Terry Wogan's commentary is absolutely hilarious, although last year, the stars were "Wigwam" who were a glam rock/verging on the metal outfit from somewhere like Finland, Norway I *think*

Finland.
Are they still going ?
While my peers used to favour "Led Zep" on theirs, I used to have a preference for obscure band names on my haversack at school in the 70s - "Wigwam" was one of them - though I'd only ever heard one track on Alan Freeman's saturday rock show, and I was disapointed recently when I came across the track "Nuclear Nightclub" online - I was sure they were more butch.
I don't think I ever wrote the name of Finland's guitar hero "Jukka Tolonen" on my haversack - being pre-internet, I wouldn't have been able to spell his name :D

My annoyingly talented mate (one of the few kids I went to school with who ended up at Oxbridge and later with a PHd - painted this on his :-

i actually hope they sound really anaemic and Euro-pop. That would be awesome :)
Wouldn't it be fantastic if the Finnish turned out to be cheesy disco, and the German entry sounded like Napalm Death?:D

You can get 29-1 (which is a funny number) according to various tinternet sites for a Lordi win...

Apparently Daz Sampson is only 18-1 to win which is odd since Lordi are much better

brief TV interview with Lordi by swedish journalist:

journalist: but...but how are you in real life?
lordi: ah, in real life...i'm very nice. but Lordi- is evil. VERY, VERY EVIL!!! :D

I'm just hoping Lordi make it through to the final. Got the thursday night to get through first.

and there's a 50 years of eurovision prog on tuesday night. Warming up nicely.

from wikipedia

The monster costumes are such an integral part of Lordi's publicity image that they refuse to be photographed or even interviewed without them, but on March 15, 2006 the Finnish tabloid Ilta-Sanomat published a photograph of Lordi himself in civilian clothing, with his face partially showing. Lordi has called this an insult towards them and an attempt to destroy the "monster image" they have worked ten years to create.

OMG@ Lordi! Ha! :D
Our entry is SO shit. :(

I'll be at a big house party in Holland watching this. Terry is so funny. Looks like its gonna be a fun night. :D

Oi. It's Uk/Britain NOT England.
Although....you can claim him if you like and I certainly won't be voting for the prat and his song. It's dire.

Is there an option in which I can vote for Terry Wogan?

As he is my god...on Eurovision nights

Another reason for me to be proud of my heritage :D Right up there with the ability to drink copious amounts of vodka and start fights :D

Well if the nations can stand on their own two feet when it comes to sport, then they can fuck off and get their own Eurovision entry too. :p :)

this is gonna be the best eurovision ever ... i watch it every year, the whole thing, from beginning to end ... and i've never seen anything like this ever ! :D gonna be great ...

:D

After the disappointment of watching Arsenal get caned in last night's final, maybe tonight Lordi can restore my faith in European competitions:

The Eurovision Song Contest Semi Final
Thurs. 18 May, 8:00 pm - 10:15 pm (BBC3)

Me too.

(The rest will be wall-to-wall euro-cheese. Which, to be fair, is kinda what you'd expect from Eurovision, and exactly what a lot of viewers tune in for.)

Enjoy your party tonight! :)
