Euro Grand Prix

Hmmm, I'll have a guess at the FIA looking at the gap between Massa and Hamilton at the end of this race and setting the penalty at (gap - 1 second).

Another championship being angled in Ferrari's favour off the track.

The FIA are a fucking joke.

Surely they will have to give him something like a 10 place drop on the start line like they did to Hamilton?

I would guesstimate that is what they plan to do. Let him win this one and then a 10-place grid-drop in Spa.

Funnily enough Spa is a track with a history of serious Ferrari dominance and also a place where overtaking is very easy by Formula 1 standards.

I love Formula 1 but am rapidly losing interest due to the bunch of biased twats who run the FIA.

Oh good, didn't know this. The adverts are so annoying.

Not only that, but apparently they're not hiring James Allen to commentate either which is excellent news due to him being an utter, utter cock.

Bring on big Dave Coulthard in the commentary box :D

Fair play to Massa, excellent in qualifying and drove a faultless race. The pitlane incident was the team's fault not his.

Exactly it. The FIA are bedfellows with Ferrari, they won't punish them enough to lose points. If it was a McLaren error there would have been a drive through at least. On the other hand though, it wasn't actually Massa's fault, but his teams.

Not the most exciting race was it?

Interesting to see what happens to Massa and Ferrari now. For me it should have been an automatic drive through penalty, especially as it happened on lap 37. Had been been speeding in the pit lane it would have been automatic even if no other car was nearby. No advantage was gained but it was clearly unsafe and I feel sure that everyone aside from Ferrari would have agreed.

Sadly I am 99% certain that the only action will be a ten place penalty rather than action on the results of this race or a pints deduction. Had he been given a drive through then I guess it would have still been a third place finish.

Hamilton did not look at his best in the interview afterwards did he? Claiming that he had health problems and he looked out of sorts for sure. If that was the case then he was pretty solid in second

I thought he was going to be sick. Dodgy paella. He's been knobbled I tell ya.

As for the Ferrari thing, i reckon they're going to get away with it.

Well, I must admit that in my posts above I thought that the pitlane incident was a fairly serious incident for which there would be a penalty, albeit in favour of Ferrari.

It seems though that the FIA have surpassed themselves yet again, quelle surprise:

Autosport said:
Massa reprimanded but keeps victory

Felipe Massa has been reprimanded and fined by the European Grand Prix stewards, but the Ferrari driver has kept his victory at Valencia.

Massa's victory was in doubt after the stewards said they would investigate a pitlane incident after the race.

The Brazilian nearly crashed with Force India's Adrian Sutil when joining the pitlane following his pitstop and the stewards deemed his release had been dangerous.

As a result of the incident Massa has been reprimanded and fined $10,000 dollars.

I really, really wish I could say I was surprised but unfortunately I can't.

Does anyone think that if Maclaren had done the same thing there would not have been an instant stop-go or grid place demotion?

The whole F1 scene gets more farcicial by the race.

I thought he was loved in lapin :)

We were saying that he looked like he was gonna cry but about to be sick makes more sense!!

Six races to go still so plenty of points up for grabs and McLaren creeping up behind Ferrari in the constructors table bit by bit. Massa is slowly looking better and Kimi is slowly looking weaker. Kovalainen seems to just be plodding along and although he is driving out of his skin I can't see Kubica ending anything higher than third.

I think that Aloser must really have sand in his vagina now. Not sure where he will end up next year but McLaren will never take him back and Ferrari seems to be looking less likely....

With a bit of research (yes, I know, too much spare time):

From the 2005 San Marino GP:-

"Ralf Schumacher was later given a 25 second penalty as he was released into the path of Nick Heidfeld. This temporarily dropped him to 11th place"

Nivce to see the FIA following precedent and not just making it up as they go along depending on what colour the car in question is...

If that is official then it is a pointless punishment to a guy earning $8m (probably more now?) per year before sponsorship. If the incident had been a fraction of a second, or a few feet further across it would have ended the race for two drivers and messed up other teams strategies too.

If he (or more likely any other team) had been doing 2kmph over the pit lane speed limit then it would have been a drive through regardless of proximity of other cars.

I suppose it makes the McLaren efforts seem all the more valiant as a result. Unless of course Lewis gets docked 60 points for not feeling to well or having the wrong type of hair perhaps :)

I think Rob Smedley on the podium collaborating with Massa, over the pit-lane safety issue, was absolute blatancy - but more-so - hilarious.

As far as Massa's penalty is concerned then I think the punishment should be fully aimed at the team rather than the driver who takes the instruction to maneuver his vehicle on the blind faith of his TEAM

I reckon Raikonnen's Ferrari spot will go to Kubica over Alonso. Based on his performance in the last few races, he would shine in a Ferrari. Shame though, because I like him, and I'm not sure I'd be able to feel happy for him if he does well in a red car.
