But as the battle escalated England fans begin pouring out of nearby pubs as they stand as one – leaving the Russians with no choice but to retreat as the police arrive.
The Ruskis claim they had not choice but to flee as they were outnumbered "one to five" and when they realised their disadvantage "the stupid herd trampled us".
But despite their defeat, the author of the account- which details the Friday night violence in Marsielle - says the match would be when the Russians could "soberly assess their strength".
He wrote though that it was Millwall fans who led to the Russian retreat, noting it was good to fight with "truly British hooligans, not the singing clowns".
