Euro 2016 Violence thread (to keep the footie threads on footie)

Do you still think it's the English fans fault?

I actually find it laughable that people think hooliganism ever went away. Better policing and organisation at football matches in the UK has made violence rare compaired to the 70s and 80s but once you are at an international football tournament on foreign soil where thugs square up to each other in a poorly organised and policed environment, it's always going to turn into a mass brawl very quickly. Anyone saying that England fans are solely the victims of organised Russian and French hooliganism is in denial.

I am told that most football related violence takes place away from football stadia. This is confirmed for me by my own experiences and from observation. I would not therefore place too much weight on policing in stadia which did fuck all to prevent e.g
the hoolie rampage in central London after England departed euro 96

The one where they smashed up loads of BMWs, Volkswagens and Mercedes and kicked the shit out of anyone with an accent that may or may not have been German.

I think the Millwall fans in the photos above need to be congratulated, not vilified, for holding back and not endangering England's continuity in the Euro 2016.

Alexander Shprygin (photo below) is travelling alongside the official Russian FA delegation in his role as leader of the Russian Supporters Union and has posted videos of Russian fan violence.

Russian MP and executive member of the country’s football union Igor Lebedev has given his support to the Russian hooligans running riot through France.

‘I don’t see anything wrong with the fans fighting,’ he posted on Twitter. ‘Quite the opposite, well done lads, keep it up!’

As sea lion said, don't bother mate. You're arguing with someone who seems to be condoning football violence, yet enjoying the idea of England fans being the recepient of it. A walking contradiction.

Just ingnore the idiot

edit: condemning not condoning ( thanks Libertad )

I presume that you meant condemning football violence?

I don't see how the fact that they were singing offensive songs or that England is allied to America is any sort of justification.
I think the answer for those guys like the Russian steroid heads would be for them to be given their own euro and world street fighting tournaments, I'm sure they could even televise it and make money from it, fence off a section of the city and have a gladiator style 25 a side ruckus. I don't reckon any Europeans would be in it, I reckon Brazil could beat Russia if their MMA fighters are anything to go by

whoops, yes
Bit of a walking contradiction hey :p

You can think what you like mucker. I'm just not buying this "There's no English hooligans in France" bollocks. I don't like any form of violence personally and I'm not enjoying watching anyone gettin hurt. I posted the vid up for some ballance with the silly rose tinted op. ;) I do stand by my "If you're going to fight do tie your shorts up" advice though ;)

Totally agree with this. Let's not feed the Troll.

It's only a justification for people with a fanatical mindset.

I think today is going to be a testing time for everyone in Lille: England, Wales and Slovakia fans have got to watch their backs as the police can't be relied on to keep them safe.

Will be cheering on Slavokia today.

Flare set off in the Russia end just now. Does that mean their gone? (looks like their gone anyway!)

I read the news on the day.
yeh and everything in the papers is true isn't it

tbh i didn't see any german speakers or maybe german speakers getting attacked, and while i won't declare no cars of german manufacture were attacked the only damaged car i recall seeing was a trashed police car.

There were plenty of photos of trashed German cars and fairly extensive reportage of a Russian and two others whose origin I can't remember getting the shit beaten out of them. Could all be bullshit, granted, but didn't seem to be.

well i don't recall being on st martin's lane :o

This was the atmoshphere 20 minutes ago. England Wales fans kicking a ball around together. Welsh fan interviewed is concerned about what might happen when the Russians get back from the stadium, after having lost.

Caught live, russian throws bottle gets arrested.

Police teargassing england fans

Stan is excellent but has been lucky so far.

Russians approached english in square and were chased 4 blocks. One russian arrest.
Reckons they're waiting for later on when it gets dark.
