Asmara Sounds better so far.
Maybe I'll do that then - less distance to waddle over afterwardsgaijingirl said:It might be worth trying the one opposite Jamm too - I'd be interested to know how it is. I bloody love Eritrean food.

So, is it pretty much the same as Ethiopian food?

I pass it often and it seems busy....I'm glad, they're a lovely family.PieEye said:Asmara must have gone up loads since I was last there which was a couple of years ago admittedly. I hope they're doing ok in spite of the rent hikes on C'harbour lane....

Mrs Magpie said:That's because the proprietress of the Asmara got pissed off with Ethiopian and Eritrean single blokes filling the place out and buying only the occasional coffee and using it like their personal social club and vibing out white people so she chucked them all out. I do see Eritrean families in there though....
I have noticed with Eritrean restaurants that there are often HUGE family parties in them. Whenever I've gone with gaijinboy to Adulis/Ibex (RIP) we have always been noticeable by a) being white and b) being just the two of us rather than a motely crue of many with several children in tow!
Ibex used to do late night live music too and it was quite the party! It reminded me of being in Spain - we'd be finishing up dinner and suddenly all these people with babies would arrive and just be warming up for a night out!
Mrs Magpie said:I'm just giving you the gossip because I know loads of Ethiopians and Eritreans because my mum was guardian to Ethiopian (Eritrea didn't exist till later) siblings in the late 60s early 70s so I know loads of people from that neck of the woods as our house was a sort of Horn of Africa hub for years.....

I live pretty much opposite the Jamm and have not noticed anything- probably me being blind!
Almost opposite Jamm but very slightly further north.
