Ethical Dairy?

When is Hugh or Jamie et al going to do one of these programmes on dairy farming standards, is what I want to know?

Never, I bet. Because there isn't an ethical dairy alternative.

While I applaud Hugh for that programme, and Jamie for the other one, I'm hugely cynical because it is only addressing the issues they give a shit about as chefs. They aren't about to blow the lid on the dairy farming problem because half their recipes and business would be blown out of the water. And because they don't give a shit.

Selective ethicalism. (Is ethicalism a word?)

Clearly. But in this situation, tugging the old heart strings of the nation about the woes of poor little chickens is a pretty hollow gesture when the equally, if not more, disgusting practices of dairy farming aren't touched with a barge pole.

Most of us on here who make choices about vegetarianism or whatever are aware of our compromises, our hypocrisies, and we admit them, openly. Dairy farming is ignored completely. It does Hugh's crusade no favours.

And don't call me Shirley ;)
