I only own a few dresses and none of them are cotton or linen

I say a semi fitted white shirt, a plain black jumper, some decent black trousers that fit like a dream and a medium sized pair of gold hoop earrings are absolutely essential, along with a glittery pair of heels

And some big control knickers of course

I don't think I really have any shirts that aren't for painting in! I also don't own any trousers beside two pairs of jeans. I pair me mum bought me when I was 14 They stopped fitting when I got a bit bigger a couple of years ago and a stretchy pair that came free with a coat.

Never worn a white shirt in my life except as part of my school uniform.
Hate gold jewellery.
Never wear dresses.

Essentials for me are:
1 good pair of bootcut blue jeans
1 good pair of smart(ish) black trousers
Several black vest tops
Good pair of everyday trainers
Good pair of boots with heels
A fleecy zip up top

Oh but they do and I wear them every day - either plain or my special little gold and diamond hoops.

I think this just goes to show that whats 'essential' is a matter of taste and probably lifestyle too. I have hardly any dresses, have only just got into wearing skirts (but not a pencil skirt - me in a pencil skirt is a sight I don't want to see). I rarely wear scarves and the last leather jacket I owned was when I was 20.

BUT........... I have several pairs of pink shoes

I agree with Felix that most peoples idea of essentials will be different, but we all have different lives so I guess that follows.

I am a bit of a flake when it comes to essentials, my best mate is always moaning at me because I don't have some item that she thinks I should. Generally she's right and upon her orders I have invested in a black bra and a smart jacket and skirt.

My own essentials are

At least 3 party dresses (one MUST) be black
Skinny jeans
a smart dress
a summer dress
smart/casual trousers (must be fitted and not made of denim)
a plain t shirt (preferably more than one but since this is essentials...)
Knee high boots in a sensible colour
ankle boots in a sensible colour
high heeled smart shoes
flat smart shoes
sexy shoes

few fun dresses (to either dress up with heels or down with flats/boots n socks)
sexy pair of heels
fabulous lingerie inc. properly fitted bras
basic accessories (make an outfit imo sometimes)
lil scarfs (for round neck or to attach to big bag or on waist etc.)

No leather jacket for me... I'd say essentials of my wardrobe are jeans and tops (how boring) but I do have lots of long skirts - current fave is a long denim skirt and I like black v-neck tops over it. People tell me I look dramatic, which helps

oh and my beloved long black coat - couldn't be without that
