Epic street battle as private guards try to fine man for dropping cigarette butt

Dropping a fag end on the street is littering, just like dropping any crap is. (Rollies are a bit less of an issue as they're biodegradable.) OTOH given the lack of public bins in many places and the fact that you can hardly put a fag end in your pocket and carry it around until you find one, plus the fact that they're tiny, I think dropping fag ends in the street is relatively a very minor instance of littering.

It's not really the point here though anyway.

aww, poor you, does it ruin your life? in fact does it do anything at all to you. I think people who want to fine people for dropping cigarette ends should be fined, because they annoy me.

These are the same people who lob their Lucazade bottles in bushes in the countryside, fuck 'em, lucky to get an £80 fine, when I see these cunts they get such a tirade they wish that a mere eighty quid was all they were getting.

Worst job out of all the terrible jobs I've had to do in a career of lowly positions was sweeping the scores of fag ends from the steps outside a city centre off-licence on a Sunday morning.

Proper fucking rank, especially if it had been raining.

No doubt it is a bit grim tbh, we get a proper mountain where I live because our flats also share the rear of both a restaurant/takeaway. Still have a big issue with such aggressive pursuing on the street by private enforcers (and police officers getting involved) and 80 quid fines for members of the public dropping butts though.

I'd almost accept an objection from a worker, but if thats the worst thing youve ever had to do its not that bad. on a general scale of cleaning up its pretty low down the list compared to vomit, dogshit, rotten food and dead things

I used to be a litter picker for Hounslow Council, fag ends are litter, same as all the other shit some people feel they should just lob on the floor to mess up neighbourhoods and expect other people to pick up for them. Worst was a bag of works in a MaccyD's bag, just left on the fucking street for any kids or animals to come across :(

how the fuck do you know they are the same people? I drop fag ends in the street and don't even like lucozade.

i love the guys who use the bus stops as a nice little sit down eatery for the takeaways they've just bought. i think they get so comfortable that they forget that no waiter will come and clean up their boxes after them. i love that shit. should be more of it.

How did he get away without giving his details? He just seemed to talk his way out of the situation and then leave
Nobody in that video has the right to demand someone's details. The private security never do afaik and the police only have one power outside of arrest to demand details (or they can arrest you for refusal) which is a section of the 2009 ASB act, probably s50 mentioned in the video, of you are deemed to have committed anti social behavior which is defined as something like behaviour intended to cause alarm or distress.
Arguably the guy filming could be doing this but littering would not (in terms of the law) be considered ASB.

My knowledge is a few years out of date now, 2013 was my last legal observer training.

Afaik you have the right to film on private property, it's permission to enter that can be denied, except at railway stations (and I'd imagine airports) and under the prevention of terrorism act of some year or another.

I too was surprised he didn't go full fotler but was obvious from the caption at the start he would be at least mildly conspiraloony.

you'd except it from a worker, but not from the vast, vast majority of people who don't want you to sling your fag butts in their towns/areas, etc?

if you drop a bit of your sandwich do you get down and scrub the pavement?
Do I really have to explain the difference between accidentally dropping a piece of biodegradable sandwich and intentionally throwing a non biodegradeable fag butt away? Just put the fucking thing in a bin.

And WTF is this 'scrub the pavement' bit?

Cigarette filters, along with cigarette paper, ink, capsules and adhesives, are all components of acigarette. The filter may be made from cellulose acetatefibre, paper or activated charcoal (either as a cavity filter or embedded into the cellulose acetate). Macroporous phenol-formaldehyde resins and asbestos have also been used in cigarette filters

This is the guy who hangs around in Camden with a megaphone I think, banging on about consumerism and winding up any cops that come past. I think he got moved on from the tube station some how; he was there a lot up until maybe a year ago, then vanished, but I saw him again in the last few weeks, near the market instead. He's annoying but tourists like him so the council should really be fine, though obviously they're not, given that they've even cracked down on buskers—banning buskers in Camden ffs, how does that make sense?

oh and fuck profiteering council subcontractors, their lying agents, and coppers who lie about the law too, obviously
This fella perhaps?

Every time unless pigged, even then would usually come back in the week and do a sweep - oddly it was free parties that showed me that the countryside was there, was a kind of mythical area before that, now I live there :)

Actually, ironically, it was usually the fucking pigs/authorities that moved on/broke up gatherings which meant travellers/go-ers didn't get a chance to clean up. Then they could moan in the media about parties/revellers not cleaning up after themselves

I only drop little in posh places if that helps, but fag ends pretty much anywhere outdoors. perhaps I should be jailed.

How posh? Where do you draw your lines? Do you do most of your smoking on the A30 in Virginia Water and run in to Wentworth to flick your dog end away? Or do those rich fuckers escape your moral crusade?

Perhaps you should respect others as you would wish to be respected yourself?

No fine instant 10 hours of area cleaning that will learn the bastards or the singapore approach caning.
You can get pocket ashtrays for your fag buts so do so no excuse

Have done all those plus dealing with disposed of drugs works and the like, and a stack of soggy fag ends trumps them all by a mile.

Actually, I just remembered the time i turned up to a shop with human shit smeared on the front door. That was unpleasant but procedure was to get field services to deal with so didn't have to do the actual cleaning, but still worse than fag ends.

So my initial post was a lie, but not by much.

Of course they shouldn't. It's still litter, and it's still minging. And someone still needs to clean up after it.

The amount of rubbish thrown from cars generally, and then not cleaned up, has increased as well in the past few years I think.

How fitting that rubbish Tory Britain is covered in rubbish
i was in bradford yesterday to watch the lions.

i have never seen a place so filthy in all my life. It was actually a bit tragic. there were whole areas just covered in discarded stuff. looks like the council has just abandoned it. just caked in the stuff. must be awful for the people who have to live there.
