Epic, lush, melancholy - recommendations please

use google blog search! i found it for you. here.

Thank you.

I do feel positively churlish for mentioning now that:

a) I can't download many things from Mega-upload et al as the local ISP here doesn't give out fixed IPs and everything goes through a limited number of proxies - it always thinks I am already downloading stuff. Not that you were to know of course.
b) I really would like at least 256kb rips, if not 320 or lossless.

:)

(yeah I know - beggars/choosers and all that jazz)

On the plus side I have found Tubala Rasa by Arvo Part and am downloading. Presume it is worth a listen?

Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore and lose yourself in an imagined David Lynch wilderness.

Which one? There are a few albums out there.

I have some unspent Amazon vouchers which I can use.

THus far I have Fennesz - Black Sea, Morten Valence - Bob & Victoria.. , and The Opiates in my basket.

Tell me which Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore album I need and I will add that and hit the checkout.

Obviously this stuff won't arrive for this weekend, but you have all enthused me enough to buy some completely new music.

Labradford - any of the mid '90s albums - is what you wanna get listening to.

Epic, lush, melancholy and trippier than an elongated trip in a souped-up trip machine...

arvo part - cantus in memoriam benjamin britten has been rocking my stereo heavily for the past few days, and is exactly what you describe. you could do worse than having a listen to some of his other works too, i reckon.

i did a thread on a similar subject a bit ago - albums that threw up that were particularly fine were:

deaf centre - pale ravine (actually, pretty much anything on type records would fit)
the aforementioned fennesz album, which is superb... bohren und der club of gore is brill too.
the gas box set
isan - lucky cat
robert rich & b. lustmord - stalker
belong - october language
pan american - white bird release
the fun years - baby it's cold inside
tim hecker - harmony in ultraviolet
william basinski - 92982 (also, the disintegration loops)

there's plenty more to go at on this thread

Excellent tips - most of which I reccomended to you on your thread - glad to see you liked them:D

i was listening to a silver mt. zion memorial orchestra - this is our punk rock last night. that probably fits... it's certainly fairly epic...

I always feel a little left out when music discussion turns to "Loveless" and indeed MBV in general.

I have yet to click with it, despite trying once a year or so.

Maybe I am due a retry.

you don't have to like it.
i loved it when it came out, but i don't think i've listened to it in the past 15 years or so
