Keep reading thread title as about Enoch Powell getting 'blue plague'.
Its just a way of showing off I reckon. Certainly where London is involved, it probably started out as 'look at all the important people of history who have lived here'. Now it seems its anyone someone may have heard of.
To even things out someone should do a Blue Plaque that says “This plaque is dedicated to everyone that doesn’t have a blue plaque dedicated to them”.
Its daft, it is so very strange to have a plaque marking a house for only one resident, simply because they where FAMOUS.
and well just poorly thought out.
History does not exist no matter what. It only exists if people remember it. Reminders are therefore important.
I think the word you're looking for is 'marketing'.
that all sounds like politics to me
Look, we didn't get where we are today by taking a nuanced approach towards people who believe in simplistic absolutes!
Except the Poles gave us one in the 30's and then we blocked the free Poles from working with it
did they? what's your source? articles i've found suggest they'd cracked some of the enigma codes but say nothing about the poles handing over an actual machine Poland's overlooked Enigma codebreakers Polish codebreakers 'cracked Enigma before Alan Turing'
specifically the '97 edition?
i might be being presumptuous but id expect an ethno-nationalist to have a pretty turgid view of Greek & Roman history, and get good marks for it too.
i dont know anything about him tbh, beyond rivers of blood
if something happens, it has happened, it is in the past.
i do not need to remind you that it happened, for it to have happened?
Its history. its not documented and its not remembered, but it did happen.
Did it? Back up your claim by citing a specific thing that happened that isn’t recorded or remembered by anyone at all.
Got the 2014 edition, its in the first chapter. Forward (written in 97 by Alan Stripp) says he hat tips 2 myths on P13 but the next 4 pages is accurate
Powell said of himself, ‘Others will remember me as they remember me’ Then added ‘I should have been killed in the war!’
Thats a ridiculous argument to pick.
This happens every minute everyday. people forget and do not remember, others remind them or inform them possibly incorrectly to what has exactly happened in the past.
from the first edition (p13)
Last full paragraph on P16 is the one you want.
so i see.
Probably right in your reasoning. Academic reliance on Greco-Roman intellect and Judeao-Christian morality would have been more prominent pre the 1960s.
It’s the tree forest argument that’s been raging forever. I think we can crack it today though.
It's in line with statues. They pretty much only ever erected statues to scumbags.
i'm still looking for the second book of aristotle's poeticks
i am not familiar with this theory, will read up now..
But look, Nick Drakes Blue Plaque has incorrect birth date on it.. If you walked by and though 'cool' Nick drake lived here & oh wow he was born in 1946 'cool'..
well no not cool.. incorrect!!
His birth records show he was born in 1948.
This is examples of poorly managed historical data.
Another one is tommy coppers plaque.
It says he was a comedian.. No he was a Magician..
that's the bbc for you
Tommy and Margret Gainsborough plaque could be on wrong building??
Its all evidence that these things a shit
