Englishness/Britishness and the Left

OK roots then.
you can id yourself as english without wanting to spit and hate other people.
I like the idea of a bit more englishness but not at anybody else's expense.
you can be british/whatever you can also be British/english.
I did'nt colonise ireland force the welsh to speak english or clear the highlands so feck off with your anti english bollocks:mad:

i love many, many, many aspects of England.

I am patriotic about the things that i deem are good: nhs; sense of humour; countryside; good journalism (on the odd occasion); the fact that we like books; library on every high street; no one can truly starve unless they choose too, etc.

but there's a lot of bad as well, init.

i detest people who hate EVERYTHING about England (and they do exist - not just in the pages of hte daily mail), just as much as i detest those who love only the WASPish things about england.

I like being English. I wouldn't consider myself British. Even when asked where I was from by foreigners. And funnily enough, certainly other Europeans would identify us as English. I've certainly only ever been identified as ingles, anglais or englisch...

Welsh nationalism is the least progressive other than English and Manx nationalism in these isles, but that does not deny the important dissenting tradition that led to the South Wales Socialist Society, the South Wales Miners' Federation, Keir Hardie had his seat there, Jack Jones began his long struggle there and has been said Methodism and the develoved church represented a strong anti-establishment sentiment but as Engalnds oldest colony it fighting spirit has disipated and acceptance of it lowly position appears inevitable and eternal - much like Kernow/Cornwall and Britanny.

You've confused a lot of things there.
