England vs. Windies fourth test, Chester-Le-Street

Cricinfo having to find more excoriating descriptions than 'village' now. Bravo's bowling just got described as 'village third-team bowling.'

England's attack is looking sturdier than it has in quite a while imo. Probably since Simon Jones was injured in fact.

Chanderpaul gets another well-deserved 100. The Windies are incredibly lucky to have him.

he reminds me of boycott. and having just watched the channel 5 highlights, boycotts really rates him as well, he stays in for hours and hours and hours:cool:

Monty P. the rich mans ashley giles.
He certainly adds more in the spin dimension than Giles. Did anyone ever really get to the bottom of why Giles was preferred to Monty last winter?

Jesus thats some way to end a days play.

Does look like a draw for sure now.

I couldn't believe it when KP was out for 0 - there seems to be a hex on the last few minutes of play in a day. I'm glad to see Strauss shaping up again though - its about time.

I see the media still have the knife into Vaughan continuing as captain. Surely he's proved himself by now?

He was white and popular within the squad?

*scarpers*

Init, whoever dragged Ryan Sidebottom out of obscurity is surely a cricketing genius. Or perhaps like me they were perplexed as to why James Anderson is ever let anywhere near a cricket ball.

All down to Duncan viz. Giles, and I don't think he rated Sidebottom too highly.

To be fair I thought he was a bit of a county plodder myself, in the Ed Giddins mould (drag any journeyman swing pro out for the day under cloudy skies and he'll bag a Michelle, but on a flat pitch with the sun out he'll go 0-112). However Frank seems to have worked on his game and is still a threat when conditions don't suit; Hoggard is a great example of that.

Two days left then and if the weather holds we might have a game on.

how about England declare and put the Windies in, bowl em out for a low score and rattle off the runs for another victory??
Could still happen, although Prior is out now so the Windies have belatedly got into the tail. Mind you, Harmison and Panesar can both hit the ball about given the chance, so England could probably muster a lead of about 80 and then give the Windies a going over this evening.

E2A: I have to say though, I've been very impressed with Prior this series. Hopefully we're safe from having to watch Geraint Jones play for England again for a while.

Agreed. I think the test wicketkeeping order probably reads: Prior....maybe Ambrose or Nixon then one of Read/Jones a long way behind.

prior gone can't see the tail lasting too long, hopefully we can get the Windies in bat sooner rather than later and knock a few of them over

They don't need to stick around that long; if they can whack ten runs each and stick around for a little to allow Colly to hit a few more, England will be in a very strong position.

Yeah what I don't want to see is them scratch around for 10 overs and get 4 or 5 runs

The way the Windies have been bowling and fielding, I don't think there's much danger of that. Possibly one of the worst performances I've seen in a while. Total implosion.

Hopefully their batting will be the same

The batting is better than the bowling attack. They have talented batsmen, young guys who are still learning.

The bowling attack is just a mess - Edwards has a lot of gusto but Collymore is average, Bravo has his moments. But this is the Windies and they have the spectre of bowlers past to contend with. Right now they no one even close to being world class.

Not saying an awful lot there. England got to 400 btw, more than I'd dared hope for.

E2A as for removing Shiv, if the others don't pull their finger out, it's not necessary. They don't deserve him really, the way they've played.

West Indies trail by 30 with three wickets down with a day to go.

I am very tempted to bet on an England victory - sporting index have the spread at 14-15.5 which means effectively odds of 2-1 against. I think England are favourites to take it from here, weather permitting.

Bravo really gave his wicket away with a cheap shot. Average of over 40 in the series but at no time really looked that threatening.

Samuels then does the same....blimey we could have it wrapped up by about 5.

Viv Richards is apoplectic on TMS....I love the way his sentences trail off almost with disappointment at how bad the Windies are.
