It's a mess this series isn't it? Nothing to do with the Windies but I can understand Gayle saying what he said. If the ECB want more money they should increase the capacity of grounds for competitive series. Thank God they're cutting the number of Tests back next summer, and I imagine Pakistan in spring 2010 must be off, so players can get a break at last.

Who remembers the series before the 2005 Ashes for anything other than the flat track shootout between Bell and Thorpe? This time Bopara has proved what people suspected, Bresnan has had a virtual air series and Onions is the new Richard Johnson, Ed Giddens, Richard Kirtley. The Windies know to bring coats next summer.

They should let the players who can, play the IPL (only Sri Lanka play home tests in May as well?) and let the rest get match practice with the counties.
