England vs Croatia

So what do you think will happen on Wednesday?

Eight votes in the poll and nobody has selected Croatia to win. Interesting turn around from the pre-capello era, eh? :D

I guess he has the luxury of two pairs of forwards he can play...

I don't think the players gave a very good account of themselves on Saturday (whether they were just not bothered enough or avoiding injury before the Croatia game I'm not sure), but I expect Wednesday to be a very different type of mindset.

Capello hasn't put a foot wrong yet (an honorable defeat to Spain notwithstanding), I don't expect him to when qualification is almost there, and then he can get on with sorting the team out technically for the World Cup.

England to win by at least 2 clear goals.

Now finish them off with the Defoes!

Also he seems to know how to get the best out of his squad.

I hate the way people read the silliness in the Sun (which is really the only paper that does it, most papers tend to be overcritical of England more than anything) and think that's everyone. It's stupid.

Far be it from me to question Fabio Capello... but I don't get the logic. Wouldn't it be better to get the goals in the first half?

I guess Capello knows his shit better than I do. :)

The later you score the less time there is for them to equalise. Ha, that actually makes sense.

I think one of the problems for the England national team is the amount of hype given to the Premiership. Not only is it not the best league in the world, it actually breeds a style of footballer that is anathema to what you need to win International tournaments. As soon as there's no Premiership on, the media hype machine just switches over to England. I think this hype is giving people unrealistic expectations, if the world cup were actually a league, England would do well to come in the top half, never mind qualify for Europe (?!).

Perhaps SA 2010 will be different, more our sort of climate.

Anyway, tomorrow, England 1-0. Gotta be Defoe. I don't expect it to be easy, Croatia are arguably top 16 team in the world when everyone is fit. I think Saturday's lack luster showing may work in England's favour, Capello didn't look too pleased about it.

Yeah. We just can't play a slow game, can we, which is what you need to be able to do to win a summer tournament. Our players are often fine with a high tempo, but as soon as a game slows to a crawl they all panic.

Did you watch the Confed cup? The matches were very prem in feel, I thought.

I saw the USA play Spain and Brazil (on a crappy stream) and I thought exactly that. USA used big physical players, and backs to the wall defending, and it actually came off - and we're better at that shit then they are!

I'll always have a soft spot for the Croats cos of Asa and Igor, but obviously I'll be supporting us.

I reckon it'll be tough but we'll scrape a 1-0 probably through Engerlisch cheating.

I can't quite decide this one. On the one hand, Capello has made the team more professional. On the other, there's always the glimmering rememberance that, somewhere along the line, we've always managed to screw up a game in monumental fashion with qualification in sight...

I always liked the Croat shirt, bu have to be ( sadly ) supporting Ingerland here for Scotlands expediency - all comes down to second places and points that determine elimination from the playoffs G8

*gritted teeth*

They ought to be careful talking like that.

IME it's always ego that ultimatley loses them the game. The less confident the English side are usually the better they perform.

:)

Frank Lampard is using the words like "confident" and "confidence".

Whereas this news story uses words like "concentration" and "concede".

It also suggests that Glen Johnson is too offensive and leaves space behind him too much... which is why I think we need Lennon ahead of him.

I hope none of them have said "It's time to deliver".

At the last World Cup, more players came from the Premiership than any other league.
