England Vs Brazil

Dandred said:
I know this is a friendly but christ England are very boring.......1-0 just gone to defending  this is a friendly try something different......

Brazil are playing like they are having fun, England look like this is a final :D
Spot on. Brazil took off Kaka ffuxakes.

Best comedy moment was Joe Cole (i think) putting his foot on the ball and arrogantly daring the Brazilian defender to have a go, then promptly falling over himself. Becks was average. Gerrard was good. Lampard was invisible. Why was Alan Smith on?

Because he's a ManU player??? Or perhaps because apparently he threw a hissy fit at McClaren when he was dropped before? Who knows? He certainly didn't distinguish himself - I think Crouch should have been given more time and Smith should have gone off at half time.

I didn't think Beckham did badly - Lampard, on the other hand, seems to have reverted to his World cup form. How can he score so often for Chelsea and yet play so badly for England?

I don't think it's a great plan either to give Owen an automatic place in the team when he hasn't scored since returning from injury. He didn't impress me in that 'B' game recently either.

I'm not English, however, so maybe McClaren has some secret plan for success that is not obvious to an outsider.

Beckham's recall was annoying because it's obvious that he has been the main handicap on the team for years. Sure, his deliveries are amazing, his free kicks etc, but his play isn't good for open flowing football. We have come to depend on what he can deliver, so when he's out we are useless. Bentley has similar qualities to Beckham but can deliver more open-play football too. Time to give him a go.

The commentators made a few stupid commnts. I couldn't help laughing when one of them asked "Does the sound stay in new stadium better than the old one do you think".

The atmosphere was pathetic at times and why so many empty seats. Too many lifelong seat owners not bothering to to turn up I imagine.

Apparently the stadium was only half-full at the start of the second half. Too mny enjoying the extensive hospitaliy?

got the message yet steve? he's a fucking useless liability and only serves to suffocate gerrard, who when given the chance is a real key player for england. if the goalposts were 100ft high then we'd have won the world cup :D

Thats exactly how I feel .

And I reckon we should employ a holding midfileder to sit in front of the defence then let gerrard and lampard play a more attacking role supporting a lone striker ( owen , defoe ? ) for a 4-1-4-1 formation !

It wasnt fireworks, but it was considerably more upbeat and purposeful why so much angst, its a base at least.....

ahh fuck it, you is only gonna flame me so YES, get RID of the FA Puppet!!!

We looked so much better with Beckham in the team.. as mentioned above, the expectation is there whenever he gets the ball. And yep, he had a lot of attempts before getting it right, but at least he did get it right.

Further to that, he never stops trying, something the team had be sorely lacking.

Overall, pleased with that, looked very solid in defence apart from the obvious slip ups by Brown, and for the goal. In a way, this sucks, because McLaren needs to go.. and the FA need to sort themselves out. Here's hoping.

Okay then. Nicwe to see terry score but what the fuck are w eplaying at. i don't get how on thier day jobs everyone plays at a very fast tempo and hussles like crazy but then they put an england shirt on they decide a slow tempo is the way foward. it makes no sense. Few forigners can hack the premiership beacause of the pace so why the fuck dont we play like that.

I thought shorey did well as did carragher as long as he wasn't going foward. centre backs did little wrong oher then brown who was more then a bit shit.

midfield wise i thought cole at least looked like he was trying to do something and gerrad was outstanding. lampard was his usual annonomous self and just has to go away. beckhams delivery was great and he had some nice turns/touches but for me isn't a long or even md term solution he is just plugging a gap untill others are fit and milner and bentley come through.

smith looked completly useless up front and really shouldnt play again, owen looked fairly sharp which was a nice suprise.

I really hated everyuone cheering when beckham got the ball, everyone thought he should be off when he got dropped and the hero worshiping was partly the problem with him anyway. the team was all about beckham and thats not good.

i really hate wtaching england play, slow tempo everyone in staright lines fuck all movement. tis dire.

The difference with Beckham taking all set-pieces is that there is an 'expectation' when he does.. the crowd senses it.. probably the players do.. that alone is an improvement on the past few matches..
Exactly. Perhaps, given their scoring rate for Chelsea, let Lampard take a few corners crossing to Terry if FL has to play (I say drop him). Downing can cross a wicked ball too, and it's not so predictable for the defence.

One other criticism about Beckham, although Cole is majorly guilty of this too, is that he drifts into the centre of the park. This wasn't a total disaster last night because Gerrard stuck deep and Rooney wasn't there to drop off the front man, but with all available playing this line-up congests that area horribly. Our midfield is not flexible enough to play this Total Football scheme.

Our midfield is flexible enough. Man utd rotate all the time as do madrid and liverpool, the players can do it its just they never do. i can't decide if its lazyness or tactics though.

i see no reason why beckham can't come into the centre and gerrad hit the right wing occasionly and see no reason why cole can't do the same from the left. Might be a bit much to ask beckham to crop up on the left every so ofetn like manure run with ronaldo and giggs but a bit of roation really should be done. The fact thaT WE PLAY in straight lines at all times is my mian problem with how england play.

Carrick could probabley cope being on the right every so often as well. it would give him the perfect excuse to knock 40 yard diagonal balls intto the FEET of our strikers.

So creating goal-scoring free-kicks and a crosses is a handicap? If there was a dependency on Beckham then surely this a result of the ineptness of other players - Lampard springs to mind.

No, it's great. What I mean is that our game has become totally one dimensional and dependent on that. We need to start developing for the future and actually playing football for a change.

Because when he plays for England he doesn't have Makelele or Essien doing all the hard work, so he has to do more than just get into goal scoring positions around the box.

i fear when beckham and crouch get in the same team that one dimentional will look like a step up from the way we will be playing.

robinson get ball throw ball to beckham, beckham punts to crouches head crouch misses it as he can't head for shit(but has good feet for a big man:confused: ) repeat 12 times a game, hope gerrad does something usful. he doesn't, i get bored and fall asleep.

i thought beckham was good and im really glad he is back at the team. watching england with beckham and owen in is far more fun. the time off from the squad hopefully has given beckham a new spark.

Have i mentioned its probbaley about time milner got given a shot in the team either left or right side as i dont suppose joe cole would mind being chucked on the right wing. milner, bently, lennon and joe cole would be the 4 wingers i would tkae in the squad. If we can afford 5 then beckham can come into it.
