Conversely, I was appalled when Long Pete was picked for England before. I thought he was well overated. Since I've seen him at Spurs I'm a convert.
To be fair, the reason I couldn't stand him before was because he was weak on the ball and was shit with his head despite being 23 feet tall. He's really addressed that this season imo.

@self getting the score the wrong way round at first.England were utter shit tonight. Seemed utterly disjointed and got completely beaten up in the middle of the park. Only had one idea, and that was to punt the ball up the pitch. On this form we can forget about even making it out of the group stages at the WC.

As far as I know, he's always been pretty good on the ball but weak at heading.
Trouble is, he gets saddled with the "he's tall, must be a clumsy fucker" prejudice. For someone who used to get booed when he started coming on for England, his performances have usually been good.
