England v Macedonia

I actually think we will bounce back and win.

I will make sure this happens by sleeping through it, rather than by waking up at 3am. We virtually always play well in the games I miss.

They should also try and talk Paul Scholes out of retirement too.

McClaren has asked him twice already, hasn't he? Don't think he's going to change his mind.

(Plus Scholes looked pretty lacklustre at the end of his England career.)

Dismal game :(

Was getting utterly frustrated ... I imagine the tone of this thread would be a bit different if Gerrard's excellent shot had gone in though .... but in general, too many England players not making the effort.

What did people think of King's performance in Ferdinand's place though?

I wasn't sure, but having thought about it I think he did alright!

Yes, I think that's the main thing. We know we have the players. If Scotland can beat France, with the players they have, we ought to be able to beat Macedonia with the players we have...

my take ?

Im a bitter scotsman, but you will win the group whatever.

You know what the problem is ?treating these people like adults - theyre- on the whole - not -m they are, as someone mentioned, lazy coonts - this is pretty much the same bunch that threatened to strike when one of gtheir chums was dropped a year or two ago - to rich, to complacent and full of the shite that the redtops make up about them - full of their own self imprtance, yerst too dumb to realsie how pathetic they actually are

Golden generation ? Golden Shower more like.

Beckham had to be chucked, but you need to sort some of the other fuckers out as well.

Same old story. 1 bad England result, of our 2 best players, one is booked, the other out of form, next opponents win well, everyone sounds the death knell.........

....followed by England getting whatever result they need a few days later and everyone lurching back from one extreme to the other.

We'll see I suppose. I'd have thought a draw away against Croatia would be an acceptable result at the moment.

You're right about the extremes though. I think the truth is that England are a decent team, regardless of how badly they played on Saturday, but not up there with the best.

Who are Scotland, apparently.:p

Of the two extremes, the one that needs to be addressed is the one that suggests England are a world class football team.

They haven't been a world class team for more than 35 years.

If the inherent arrogance that the English have can be contained, maybe everyone can see results like this in a different context ...and accept them as part and parcel of the types of results average football teams sometimes get.

It could have been worse ....they could have lost to Scotland.

I went to the England game at the weekend and after driving most of the M60 i arrived!

We looked like, after a lively start, lacking in confidence.
Downing was absolute shite, how he dons an England shirt is beyond me. Oh Maclaren isn't it?
Too many players go missing for me. Lampard etc... just don't wanna muck in when it gets tough. Bring in Scott Parker and get Carrick out for more stability in centre mid. He'll get stuck in no worries.
Rooney for a player of immense ability doesn't score enough goals (or any at the minute). He looks the shadow of a player we all know he is. Drop him as well. Get him out the limelight for a brief time.

The best bit for me was the flag baring children at the start of the match that got soaked by some hilarious japester somewhere who turned the sprinklers on tactically. :)

The biggest problem is the media building us up to be something we're not. We have a good collection of talented individuals...as a team we're like a bunch of headless chickens...I'm not exaggerating either.

Defence is pretty solid...on it's day very very good...against Top Quality Opposition...sometimes found wanting.

Our Midfield operates like a "Bag Of Shite"....they can't pass accurately, can't retain possession, can't beat a man, lack pace, lack vision...it's just disheartening. Our style of Football in International terms equates to a Bolton or Wimbledon of Old in Club level terms...we play Long Ball...have been doing for quite some time.

Upfront, we're mediocre, Crouch has done well lately...but banging in hatricks against Jamaica is all well and good...but if he can't turn it on against the creme de le creme then it's as good as useless IMHO...as much as I admire Crouch...he'll never cut it at the Highest level.

Rooney is our saviour...when he's on form he's pretty much unplayable or at least he was at Euro 2004....he's been shite lately, we all know this.

The problems have been there for quite a while...it's just when the likes of Rooney & to a lesser extent Gerrard turn it on, we look slightly better than average against average opposition.

When was the last team we beat a decent team? I really can't remember.

McClaren has a lot of work to do...his team selections of late have been questionable, Stewart Downing? Oh FFS do me a favour....this kid is so over-hyped it aint even funny.

No all it needs is for people to accept international sides are like club sides and will win and lose and play badly, play well and often play just good enough to get a result when most of th players will be playing Champions League football the next week.

It has fuck all to do with arrogance - most accept this already. And England aren't an average side, England are a good side with 2/3 world class players who would get into almost any other team and more who are no worse than what many other good teams have on offer.

You are exaggerating though. Your post is exactly what I was talking about. You criticise others for going too far one way then go too far the other way yourself. If we play well it's the exception and the one time in qualifying we'll have a tukrkey we've been 'found out'.

Point out where you think i'm exaggerating if you don't agree with me?
