England v Andorra 10/6/09

It really was a pointless game. I still watched it mind, but I'll watch any old shit so long as it's football.

I stopped watching when Rooney went off. :D

My wee brother was skinned on his bet after stupidly going for an Argentina win away to Ecuador, I did warn him but he's a muppet.

Maradonna - classic case of great player shit manager.

He's got to get the sack soon surely? The argies have been shit this qualifying campaign, and with the players they've got that's absolutely unacceptable.

The away sides can't actually breathe in Ecuador, always a home banker.

Half the Andorra team retiring during the match was quite funny.

Not sure if this is exactly what you mean, so won't put words in your mouth, but on a related note:

It did annoy me that the commentators were saying that teams like Andorra shouldn't be playing in these matches, especially when the same commentators will go on and on about how the FA cup is the best cup competition in the world because anyone can enter and you get minnows against giants, etc, etc.

I'll concede that the league teams don't get in until 1st round proper, and the Premiership aren't in until the 3rd round (fuck, I've just realised Newcastle will have to start from the 1st round next season :() but still think it was a stupid thing to say.

I'd taken my radio so I knew that he was retiring, but it was quite funny to see everyone's reactions when they subbed the keeper :o :D

To be fair, they've only been competing since 1996 and the population is less than 100,000. Got to respect them for even fielding a team in my opinion. Would be easy to just not bother.

Only ever won 3 games, scored 28 goals and their best player plays in Serie B...

Yeah, and they're always quite a tough team to beat.

Yeah, and they're always quite a tough team to beat.

And compared to similar teams (San Marino and Liechtenstein) who have both been competing for longer, their biggest loss isn't as big.

Andorra: 8-1 and 7-0 v Czech Republic and Croatia respectively
San Marino: 13-0 v Germany
Liechtenstein: 11-1 v Macedonia

Liechtenstein are the only team to ever lose to San Marino.

Fair play to these smaller team I say. No reason why they shouldn't be able to take part in these competitions. It's not that often that they get demolished! Considering their low populations its a wonder they don't lose by 10+ each time.

And it's a great day out for them too.

Monday: It's only a week til that wretched inspection. Made sure classroom was well prepared and tidy.
Tuesday: Went to pub with school colleagues after work.
Wednesday: Had karate lesson in the evening.
Thursday: Went to school. Kids were noisy. Got some planning done.
Friday: Finished my marking, got ready for Ofsted (or local equivalent thereof)
Saturday: Went to Wembley Stadium to play football against Beckham, Gerrard and Rooney.

Imagine how demoralising it must be - 90 minutes of being out-classed, humiliated and generally given the runaround by 11 millionaires in front of 58,000 fans who don't care much for your suffering!

Do the Andorrans get the day off from work or do they have to take it as holiday?? I guess they could finish at 5, catch an Easyjet to Standstead, arrive at 7, hop on the train get there just in time, play the match. Then first flight back in the morning.

-"Why are you late?"
-"Sorry boss. Had to play England in a World Cup Qualifier at Wembley last night"

:D

I don't think it would be demoralising at all. Usually we only beat them about 2-0 which is quite a good result for them. Being a part-timer facing some of the world's best players (supposedly) and they only beat you 2-0.
