England/ Uruguay - anyone care?

You know what's fucking wrongun, your housemates going 'nah don't fancy going down the pub for the football' on your fucking 21st birthday That's fucked me off a treat, they're bloody fucking hermit cunts - I spend my time with others when I am out, I swear to god they never leave their fucking precious consoles. CUNTS CUNTS CUNTS.

hmmm, sounds like me and my hermit friends :(. Starting to think it might be time to find some new ones (not hermit this time, like).

don't really have anything to say about the england game i'm afraid.

Another victory. Nothing like wins to keep the psychological factor of confidence in the plus zone. Winning breeds the right kind of habit. Germany for example will play the group games with doubts in their minds.

Our players by contrast will relish every game.

So long as our media don't come up with any more 'exposes'...

What the fuck is up with Rio? Does he think he's fucking Ronaldinho or something? He tried to do a maradona style spin in the first minute (and of course, lost the ball). WTF????

We were much steadier at the back once Ledley came one.

Sol Campbell's remote chance of makign the squad is gone - Terry, Ferdinand, King and Carragher are enough cover. Real shame about Bridge becuase with him at left back england had a much better shape.

I still think Engkland play better without Beckham and Lampard in the team - SWP offers pace that will force mistakes from opponents.

Still not good enough to beat Brazil though.

Just another uninspiring England spring friendly. At least we won unlike france, Spain and Argentina who all lost.

Uh...when is a 3-2 win for Spain a loss  We were shite though...the tema was all over the place at times.

Ummmm....bit of a mixed bag really.

Thought Cole was excellent but think SWP tries far too hard to impress (like Cole used to), although the boy is some talent and certainly was a handful. still think Gerrard goes missing in far too many England games, although I think that's down to formation more than anything.

Rio's form is a massive worry though, particularly when you know how good he can be. don't think Sven will have the bottle to dreop him though so close to the finals.

Cole had a great game as did Carrick who was excellent

Wright Pillips seems to run into trouble a lot, variation for him is a must... sometimes simple ball is best but he likes to try and take everyone on all the time

True, but that element means defenders are wary of him, which opens up space for other players. I think he could a key player for England's squad, because far too often Sven has replaced like for like in big games and there's no change in tactics.

Talking about negative, i listened to some of the game on the radio, and that 5Live commentator just drives me round the bend. The one from Norn Iron . . . Alan Green, is it?

Example: Graham Taylor was making a point about having the opportunity to play against a 4-3-3 formation and how it should bode well for the summer, etc. and all the twat wants to do is keep slagging the manager off, and giving the players scores out of 10 like its a primary school spelling test.

God I hate 'presonality' football commentators with their miniscule knowledge and tabloid agenda.

Btw, did anyone get a tackle in on Carrcik during the 90 mins, cos, as a Spurs ST holder, it's something you hardly ever see ?

I fear fro the WC on TV. Motson and Le Sauix commentating...jesus it was painful.

Shearer and Wright in the studio...dear lord no  They've got no personality, add absolutely nothing to the 'analysis' and get right on my tits.

Wrights got bags of love for the game though, he had a right barney with Hansen a few years ago

John Terry pretending he's John Barnes in the first half, what's that all about eh?

Who needs Ronaldinho, we've got Crouchinho....

it's exactly Wright's 'I'm just a regular football fan geezer like someone you meet down the pub' schtick that gets on my tits.

If we beat Hungary and Jamaica, which we should do as they are both worse than Uruguay, we will have won all our warm-up games. I can't remember the last time we did that..

find it hard to get too excited over friendlies. to me they are just a time when i can have a laugh at englands expense ;)

saw some nice football from england last night, but our defence still worries me...

I thought Cole was excellent, although he does remind me of that Argie chap in '98, Ariel Aorta or summat, dances about a little too much, but he showed last night he has an end product. I was hoping Rio would've learned his lesson and got back to basics but he's still fucking about; big call to drop him but I'd go with Carragher and JT for the WC. Carrick did alright, I'd prefer him to Becks or Gerrard tbh, Lampard is first choice midfielder these days; this "delicious midfield" just doesn't work for me and one must fall.

Sven is a coward though and will continue to fit round pegs into square holes.

Friendlies mean fuck all of course but I doubt I'll see owt to sway me from my prediction come WC: quarters, maybe semi's, lose to the first decent side we come across.

..and just to say, what a goal by the Uru fella!

Crouch and Bent must go to the finals with Owen and Rooney

I know I am going to get slated for saying this, but I seriously reckon Harewood should be in there too. For my money, he offers something different, where Owen and bent are different players. I don't think we really need 3 goalies, so we could take 2 and Harewood. :)

it was a rare game to see england passing and attacking with genuine threat. Cole (is xes blind?) and SWP were the strong points - created havoc in Uruguay defence.

Uruguay played very defensively so most English attacks got smothered in the last quarter, so strikers had tough time

i thought england missed a makelele style player to bring it out of defence. got a bit bored of watching the back four pass it to each other

Better than the usual friendly, but that's not saying much.

I thought the Uruguay goal was a good reminder of what the World Cup's going to be like. Their team hardly threatened but like almost every team in the World Cup they'll have individuals who can produce efforts like that to win a game. There's going to be a hell of a lot of luck involved for the winner.

I thought both the debutants didn't do enough to secure their position. Carrick can pass the ball well, but only a couple of times was it anything more than simply retaining posession. He doesn't have the positioning, pace or the bite in the tackle to secure the holding midfield position. All too often it looked like he was drifiting through the game and while he didn't fuck up, he never looked better than average.

Bent looks like a good, honest striker but I don't think he adds anything to the squad, unlike Crouch who proves once again that he's a vital tactical weapon against tired legs.

Joe Cole was awesome and it's good to know that we've now got four world-class midfielders of such a calibre that any single one could win a game for England outright if they are on form.

For a mid-week, pre-Champions League friendly for a team that hasn't played or trained together for a while I thought it was pretty useful. Oh, and it's nice to see some of the other big boys making a pigs ear of it: Croatia 3-2 Argentina. Italy 4-1 Germany.

I quite liked Carrick last night and thought he fitted in well to the system and most importantly Rooney. Beckham, Cole, Gerrard and Lampard can all get in the boy wonder's way a bit but Carrick is more than happy to sit deep and be an orchestrator, almost Rooney's equivalent deep in the middle third. He'd have a lot more to aim at with SWP in the side instead of Beckham because his pace would create the space for Carrick to feed into. Beckham looked appallingly one-footed again as well and it a competetive match might well have gone for that tackle from behind. I'm coming round to the idea that it might be the FA who tell Eriksson that he has to be in the team for merchandising opportunities, just as he is in Spain, and this is symptamonius of a horrible situation football has got itself into.

And why the hell was Ferdinand left on and Terry taken off? At the moment I'd rather see his brother playing for the full team.

Look let's get all the Beckham conspiraloon theories out of the way right now.

Fact - Beckham has consistently been Real's best performer since he arrived. Though that's not saying much, that is the real reason he is in the team.

For England he always does enough in each match to justify his position. Last night he put in some very dangerous balls, got into dangerous positions more often than anyone else apart from Cole and Rooney, and provided some good lofted through balls. He's there on merit.

I don't know much about this game, but I watched it last albeit relcuctantly and can't for the life of me work out why Peter Crouch is so reviled - he must be pretty good to be in the squad in the first place and he scored a goal FFS. He's a tall lanky ugley bastard with no grace but fuck it if he score goals or sets them up.

But, should you check your facts....

Beckham subbed 64, Wright Phillips replaces

Crouch, goal, 75

Cole, goal, 90+3

Personally, I reckon Rooney was frustrated last night with his strike partner, but that's more a lack of partnership than anything else, one of the main reasons he came off. Uruguay stopped a hell of a lot of our passes from completing, something the boy Roon and Beckham work on a lot. I thought again, Beckham looked like he wasn't up for the game. Like you say, Reals best performer since he went there, they are currently going through their worst period since 1950-53 with regards to winning anything.

SWP is well good, heres hoping he turns it on in Germany - ditto Crouch, who'll do more than a job in the final half hour/twenty minutes.
