This ranking system is a fucking joke

Fifth! For the nation that invented the bloody sport! Behind Portugal?! Name one Portugese player who would even make the subs bench for England! Hell, just try and name a Portugese player at all!

Bloody clowns this FIFA lot, bloody Euro-bureaucrat clowns!

Jokers. Fifth! I'm insulted. We should be first for ever, just for being us.

Isn't Messi Portuguese? I mean, he's no Stevie G but I've heard of him.

The logic of the system works for me, not just cos Ingerland are down, but cos it does give points on the basis of most recent results and gradually disgrerds older immaterial stuff as it drops off. Obviously when you get countries from different confederations being ranked head to head in a global table, it does get a bit confusing - are Colombia better than France ? Probabaly not

best to look at the UEFA ranking section just to get things in perspective, as these are who you actually play in anything competetive outside tin pot tournaments and WC finals -a yer still 4th in that - which is mebbes about right

It's all bollocks. Teams are only as good as they play at particular points in time. The World Cup is the only proper way of re-ordering it and even then its not an exact science due to erroneous early results meaning top teams may face each other earlier than expected, get knocked out, while lesser teams occasionally have an easy run in.

Given there's no real way to measure it though, this is about as good as you can do it. It will never be as accurate as a regular league ranking because of its nature.

Are you arguing that they were one of the top teams in 2012, when I made this post?

Lose to Belgium on Saturday and I doubt they’ll be top 4, may not even top 10!

That's jolly nice. How long has it been since England's last semi final appearance in the Euros?

This kind of gloating over smaller nations is now beginning to make me happy that England didn't make it to the final. They did very well in the tournament and lots of non-English posters complemented them on their performance, so why do you feel the need to start taking the piss out of much smaller nations? Does it make you feel good or something?

    Euro '96.

I think in hindsight including Wales and Northern Ireland on the list was a little unnecessary, it's really only Ireland and Scotland who are ABE.
