For me, the biggest advantage would be that something like 10 years ago, the English Institute of Actuaries and the Scottish Faculty of Actuaries joined up against my preference to form a combined Institute and Faculty of Actuaries; I think it would be hilarious if Scottish independence created massive governance headaches for this combined professional body.
