England game may be behind closed doors due to tube strike

Got an englandfans email and articles on the site never ever mentioned the possibility of the game being played behind closed doors. Considering coaches will travel from all over the country for this and wouldn't be affected by the train strike travelling south, just seems like troublemaking shit in the media or TFL.

The timing of the strike was entirely due to the day that TFl/LU BJ put in their complaint/whatever - their choice.

my understanding is that the legal minimum they could wait was 7 days, which coincided with the england game, however, there was nothing stopping them waiting till monday if they wanted to.

so entirely tfl's fault isn't quite true.

don't see how any of this will affect the world cup or olympics though. Unless there is industrial action by the rmt during either event.

The Jubilee line is running with minor delays apparently, and the Metropolitan line has a shuttle service between Wembley Park and Baker Street. Most tube lines appear to be running, albeit not at full capacity.

Yeah because if your pay and work are being affected you should definitely put off strike action for improvements until it's most convenient for everyone else. Forget the strike, why not just have them all bend over?

I dunno, but if i were organising a strike, I'd try to avoid having it on a day which would generally irritate the public. Wembley's a bugger to get to as it is...

Pising off an extra 70,000 people when you don't really need to is never the greatest idea to get the general public onside.

Its giving tfl that extra bit of leverage that isn't really needed.

As i think you said on the other thread. Most people are probabley against the strike beacuse it inconviences them, why make more enemies then you need to.

Ruining peoples work days is one thing but making people unable to get to something that they are really really looking foward to(and a complete one off event as well) is quite another.

I wouldn't strike on a friday night for this reason as well, if i were them.

It could have been any day this week.

Some guy on another forum reckons there's a governmental power to veto strikes if they're on the day of a major sporting event.

Not sure if that's true though

I don't like the new Wembley, it's soulless and a nightmare to get to/from at the best of times, let alone when there's a strike on.

Away games used to be a laugh but too many bellends go now. Plus I've been suspended from englandfans, although I was planning to knock it on the head anyway. I've done some good trips over the years but it's not the same any more.

I still watch the games on telly though.

What do you mean too many bellends go now?

Also, suspended why?

I'm rather hoping for a damp squib after all this anxiety - hopefully the Jubilee is still running. If not then I've got some back up plans...

As for the game, hopefully the boys put on a show and take inspiration from the U21s - Scott Carson up front? :D

:D

:D

Come on STFC - let's hear the full story.

It really was a genuine misunderstanding. They suspended me for failing to declare an old conviction when I joined, but it was actually a fixed penalty notice which I didn't realise had to be declared. They treat them as convictions though.
