England fans not trusted to hold a minutes silence

I had forgotten edwards was on there :(

If there were england internationals on the flight then its right that the england team and its fans pay thier respects.

If the death has nothing to do with either team involved i don't see the point.

8 ManU players dead, it was a tragedy but it was more a club tragedy and its been something that opposing supporters have used to wind up ManU supporters for generations since.

Have a minute where ManU fans get pissed off and everyone else imitates planes.

And it's quite right that england's fans should not be trusted to keep quiet for one minute over something to do with just one city in the country.
Err, four of the killed players were England internationals: Duncan Edwards, Roger Byrne, Tommy Taylor and David Pegg.

And for that reason they should be respected by ALL England fans. Unfortunatley the current culture sees club loyalty surpassing national support.

E.G. Crouch getting boo-ed at Old Trafford a couplel of years ago by England fans. Was the venue a coincidence? Probably not. As he gradually became about the only English striker capable of finding the net the haters dwindled.

A minute's silence at an England match for the victims of the Munich air crash will receive boos from the small-minded and the ignorant with the sole intention of pissing off the Utd fans.

Munich's different imho

tbh I think it's more interesting that SGE has had to plead with Man City fans not to ruin the commemoration at the derby match. Stupid fucks have been celebrating a disaster which killed one of their own greatest ever players for years.

Imho it ain't. It’s only different in the degree of sepia-tinted, faux sentimentality thrown at it by generation after generation of increasingly ill-informed and unquestioning ‘journalists’. Usual old guff on the BBC about Duncan Edwards with Bobby Charlton wheeled out to tell us once again how great and unique was his ability.

They died young, it’s easy to turn that into a generation of unfulfilled legends, a unique generation, the golden generation. Ditto WW1 poets, Hollywood film stars, rock ‘legends’; the media lap it up and the public love it, no matter how much sentimental bollocks is thrown over it, or how often.

A minute's silence is to pay respects and remember the dead - but most of the fans at the England game next month won't be old enough to remember those who died. It's not like Rememberance Sunday when there's a silence for the war dead - those people died fighting for their country, unlike a few dead footballers. Tragic as Munich may have been, it's time to let it go - though of course United and their fans can and will commemorate it as long as the club exists, which is fine.

whether you agree with it or not is a side issue, the fact remains that England fans cannot be trusted to observe it, which is fucking sad, and obviously embarrassing for some

Thats the point. And as Editor said, it's shameful.

I agree with you.

It's a sad state of affairs that people can't put just think about the fact that Munich was a tragedy and put their club allegiances to one side for one fucking minute. I think it's also sad that England are copping the flack for this when it's just an unfortunate coincidence that the few wankers who would usually boo a one minute silence at their respective clubs ground (or away) will be at Wemberlee to do it instead.

on of my personal bugbears related to this is if ask the man on the Peckham omnibus who the best player in the world was, ever...

the answer is Pele

Based on a film loop of a handful of goals/ swapping shirts with bobby moore/ other people saying he was the best/ ad nauseum

Me ? I dont know - m not old enough to remember but am old enough not to swallow the guff we are fed - he may well have been, but for me to say he was the best would be a little sad...

Nah, disagree. :)

As a united fan, I don't mind them having a silence (if they must) at the game on the anniversary (theres no way the city fans will allow it mind you).

But not at an england game. United fans hate England, and vica versa.

thats all city fans then is it? frank swift also died in the munich air disaster who was an ex england and city goalkeeper legend.

there's a few cunts that will boo, yes, but please don't tar all city fans with the same brush yeah.

Has anyone ever done the tour round Old Trafford? They have made a whole industry out of Munich, they don't stop reminding you of the event.

I'm surprised the Man U club badge doesn't have the motto "We lost some players in a plane crash".

It was 50 years ago, get over it.

whether you agree with a minutes silence or not you must be a bit of a twat to spoil it by interrupting it for other people whowish to pay their respects

Saddest part for me is how the FA are the folk who decide who is and isn't trustworthy, too much like having FIFA rate which fans are corrupt to me...

Good grief, the temerity of it. To have an awareness of your history and want to commemorate an event that affected your club and (from all accounts I have ever read) the whole city.

I mean, the bastards
