A third place play off thriller
It's a little meh at the moment isn't it?
Thankfully Brazil-Jamaica is a decent game
Another day we'd have had a handful of goals.
Obviously it's frustrating/concerning we haven't finished all the good chances we've had, but there was a time we were desperate to create any serious chance, so that's progress in my book.
Let's just hope it isn't the high-water mark
Nothing can go wrong
A massive victory for all concerned.
Including the sport of football
Portugal all over Holland for the first half hour
I think the commentators had a point, when they said Pickford and the back four are solid, Kane, Sterling and one other are a pretty impressive attack, but the midfield does seem to lack much. Dier makes me nervous whenever he has the ball, and I'm not sure Delph has much imagination. Will Foden get the game time to really develop at City, or Loftus-Cheek at Chelsea? Winks?
Portugal totally outplayed Holland for 75 minutes of that game. Holland much vaunted defence looked like Custers last stand . Tactically Portugal implemented the perfect game plan . Superb performance .
The mighty Bulgaria at 5pm then.
Hopefully Sir Gareth gets us believing again #itscominghome
I am going to this care of a complementary Club Wembley ticket. I expect it to be turgid stuff, wrong time of the season and all that.
Straightforward stuff thus far, barely out of 2nd gear.
Not massively exciting tho
This is fucking easy
I was wrong. It was a stroll. Watching England these days is so easy. I know Bulgaria are a long way down the rankings but its not so long ago that England would have made hard work of this sort of game. It just seemed like England were going to spank them and it was never really in doubt.
Apart from the save from the free kick right at the end Pickford just wasn't involved in the second half. He could have had a kip next to the post and it wouldn't have mattered.
Best England team since 1998 eh?
Michael Owen's England XI: Do Alan Shearer & David Beckham make the cut?
As much as think Owen is a bellend, that's pretty spot on
Not happy with three at the back tbh especially on that right hand side
Beckham as a 'wing back' and no holding mid. Honestly don't know how you fit Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard into the same team, and having a holding mid; arguably asking too much to have a) the best players b) in their best positions and c) have a balanced team.
Apart from Seaman and Shearer obviously, I think of that lot only Cole would make the Euro96 team. Perhaps Ferdinand.
Not even Paul "Zidane said he was the best player" Scholes?
England win has made up for the fucking cricket
No, not ahead of Gascoigne, whose place he'd take in a 4-4-2.
For the holding midfielder, I think I'd take Ince over Hargreaves. Carrick would be worth a shout on club form, but he struggled in the Lampard-Gerrard system
I did the same. It was quite a weird way to watch football. Bit of a change from a reheated pie in a concrete corridor.
The row in front of me was empty except for three people who were there for a total of about twenty minutes of the match.
When they came back about fifteen minutes after half time the guy said "oh no, we missed the Mexican wave".
It was like it was entertainment, rather than a football match.
Sterling was streets ahead of everybody else on the pitch though.
The England teams with all those players in were mostly shit weren't they.
Bit of a shame for Rashford, but good for Sancho to get another runout.
Anyone know why we're playing at St. Mary's
Huh, the way ITV are talking it was just an FA decision to take them round the grounds.
I am pleasantly, albeit tentatively, surprised.
Weeeeeeeeeell, that's shit.
