England 2 Croatia 1
Just seconds remaining now...
It's coming home.
Mr. QofG's has been live texting the match to me from the pub!!
The last three minutes were quite tense even without watching
England into the semi-final of another major tournament.
I had my doubts about this competition but it's been far better than I thought it would be. Belgium should join England and probably Holland in the semis and they and final are going to be in Portugal .
semi of a qualifier for a major tournament
Got a really good felling about the team now and then next Euro 2020
I loved Southgate as a Palace player, thought this man is going places
the best England manager since Sir Robert William Robson.
In the same way that the FA Cup final is a qualifier for the UEFA Cup.
Well not Belgium, the best rated team were 2-0 up and got thumped 5-2 with Benfica's Seferovic getting a hat trick for the Swiss.
For those without access to evil Sky.
England's Quali Group (Group A, because we're the best):
As ever, should qualify from that, but with England there's never a guarantee.
That said, it's definitely coming home.
Because the final is at Wembley.
Good group that.
Portugal v Switzerland
Netherlands v England
Arguably the toughest draw; may not be the force they once were, but sounds like they're improving again.
I'd rather see an Netherlands v England competitive game than a game against Switzerland (dull), or Portugal (which would likely see a high chance of feigned injuries and rolling around on the floor)
Definitely no feigned injuries or rolling around on the floor with England v Netherlands.
They do seem to have binned off Ashley Young I suppose.
Sancho continues to add to his highlights reel.
Sterling on fire, Sancho looking good, Kane being Kane (clinical penalty plus a killer pass).
Some excellent performances. Sterling obvs, who looks a whole level above where he was at the World Cup. Sancho, who for an eighteen year old looks very confident and part of the team. Chilwell has been good, and Barkely excellent since coming on. Oh, and Kane has been the perfect centre forward tonight.
Best team in the world.
Someone's not happy.
Thread title horror!
I never stopped believing.
It was actually a pleasure to watch England last night. Really quick pace, good tactical passes, positive playing, no dirty tackles and a vibrancy I haven't seen in a long while. Southgate deserves a lot of credit for this.
Two eighteen year olds in the side for the first time in 130 years or something. And neither looked out of their depth.
Caveat: worst Czech side I've ever seen, but still. Not England's fault, and under Hodgson or McClaren we'd have got a 0-0
You immediately got me thinking of a time before. I'm sure Ferdinand and Owen must've played together in the WC98 build-up matches, although Rio was 19 at the time.
