End of the line for Hummer cockmobiles?

So you clearly move in the shadows where ownership of tat vehicles is acceptable - hardly something to boast about at a Labour Party line-caught-Tilapia and cheese party where all the acolytes moan about global warming before quaffing their lifestyle water and heading home in their diesel (so economical and handy for taking Hazel to the Comprehensive....) Freelanders.

Dear Cobbles,

Thanks for your job application.

It has been rejected.

Sincerely,

Lord Gnome

I make it part of my civic duty to give the wanker sign to any hummer driver I see waiting at the lights when I cross. Sometimes for variation the tiny penis sign.

Given his slightly disturbing obsession with cars, one would have thought that at least Cobbles actually knew a bit about them.

But it seems that is not the case. Anyone who claims one of the defining and most acomplished vehicles of the 20th Century is 'tat' and that an oversized converted off-road military vehicle is preferable is utterly clueless about motoring.

Presumably tractors (real tractors, not Chelsea ones) are also preferable to Golfs, seeing as they cost more money eh Cobs? :D

My diesel VW achieves 50+ MPG and is as comfortable and reliable as I could ask for. That is when I can afford to actually put any diesel in it :(

probably changed now but in somalia the yanks complained that ak rounds went straight through the "armoured" doors. they used to wind the windows down so that the bullet proof glass added extra armour. (the glass didnt stop the ak rounds eitehr but combined the door armour and the glass did)

theres an imported hummer on the council estate next to my son's school with dubai plates strange:confused:
never seen it move but its there sort of thing would be fun to drive once its an h3 so huge and useless

Skhodra in Albania has about a dozen kicking about.

Thye have an uncanny ability to be able to park wherever they want with utter impunity - right in the middle of the main street for example, and no ne says a word

The fact that is the border town on one of the most important smuggling routes in the Balkans is neither here nor there of course

This should get rid of the problem...

really? it doesn't look that way

i think i'd rather have been in the other SUV

or the schoolbus

got links to the explainations of both of those the first one at least is standard of modern cars where the front is destroyied but the inner passenger cell is fine... the second one... hmmm i'd want to know more...

strange in what way? shopped?

I ust doesn't look 'right' - the rear of the car hasn't got a concertina shape, it's like the whole front section has collapsed independently of the rest of the structure.

eta: Just read mauvais' link, it may be that the hummer has a truck construction and not a car, i.e. it's not a complete chassis but a trellis with body just dropped on top - so if the impact is above the trellis the body just disintegrates. Which is pretty shit.

remember the fire brigade will have removed quite a bit of metal by the time the photo was taken to get the driver out..

The Hummer H2 is basically a rebodied Chevy Tahoe and has no common parts with the military vehicle.

which is why they are completely useless as offroad vehicles. the H2 is too heavy and wide and the chassis is soft, H3 is even more poo although not as big. you've got too feel a bit sorry for the people who buy them!

It wouldn't surprise me an awful lot. The original H1 was designed to be basically bloody enormous, and I imagine survive collisions by sheer size, height and mass, the fact that it was bigger than anything else that it was likely to hit apart from a mountain, at which point it doesn't make that much difference what you're built like. (Go on YouTube and you can see videos of H1s driving through Baghdad at top speed through heavy traffic - they just pile over everything or knock it to one side.) SUVs and trucks are designed for the size they are, but just shrinking the basic Hummer design to actually fit on a road isn't going to be quite the same.
