Electrics problem

I hope you installed an isolator outside of the bathroom for the shower aswell ;)

I just replaced the shower unit, any safety issues were resolved and certificated by the contractors. (There were numerous electrical safety issues from when the house was built in 1979)

The regulations are updated that often by the board of people with a license to print money that installations from 2005 are probably now obsolete

Probably, and the same for the gas certification.

Precisely. What I find astonishing about updating regulations is that they're basically stating that what they have said in the past isn't safe enough and therefore admitting liability should accidents have occurred due to earlier decisions :D

But it's a blatant money-making exercise. Everytime the regulations are updated home-owners have to fork out to bring their properties up to date and tradesmen have to also pay through the nose to retrain for skills that they already have.

The funniest update was when they changed their minds about what the green/yellow colour ratio should be on earth cable :D

I am colour blind so I have always had to be VERY careful with wiring anyway.

My brother was very green-brown (or was it red-green ?) colourblind as a child but now works on 3-phase - so I guess they've adjusted the wiring colours so perfect colour vision isn't critical ....

And he's into caravanning :)

Yes, because a shower requires an RCD aswell/instead as/of a minature circuit breaker (a water environment is what makes the different regulation).

Bizzare as it may seem, they currently don't.

The 17th edition comes into force in June 2008, then they will (as will all circuits in a bathroom [sect. 701], plus all 'general use' sockets [chpt. 41]).

So fucking there! ;)

Groucho - sounds more like you need an exorcist than a spark. :D

3 phase used to be red/blue/yellow and black for neutral (if your using one) so colour blindness wouldn't come into it.

Bump.

If this fails I'll have to send my first PM ...

I want to know if Groucho's central heating is working.

Oddly (but not considering it is me) I've not prioritised getting my heating/hot water up and running.

No, it's not!
