I'm buying a flat in Camberwell.

I've been quoted £200 by an electrician to carry out a Periodic Inspection Report (PIR) on the property I'm buying.

Basically they go round the house looking at all the wiring. Sounds like a lot of money.

Does anyone know if this a decent price?

The Institute of Chartered Surveyors has a handbook of what should cost what with regional variations that can be expected.....

Watch out for a long list of things that are no longer 'meet standards'. Apparently, this can be a bit naughty at times, as you are not required to replace alot of them, its more for new stuff if it were to be put in.

I basically pinned the guy down to 'what am I legally required to replace, cos I can check on the internet if you're bullshitting me'...

The last one I got cost £150. He's not just casting his eye over the electrics, he should be testing the whole installation and providing you with a report.
