Electric Shimano Di2 derailleur makes your bike as smooth as butter

They' re supposed to be reliable yes, but a S Record F Mech is 72g, R Mech 172g and cassette 177g..thats 421g. The Rohlff speedhub is 1.4kg from what info I can find, even allowing for a rear hub on the S Record theres still a way to go to say its not much heavier. They're designed for completely opposing applications so comparisons are pointless..

You also save a few more grammes using brake levers without integrated shifters, and some chain length, and a ring. But you're probably right that the difference is still too much.

The weight is more evenly distributed with derailleur gears. When you have a heavy rear hub, it's the rear end feels very noticeably heavier and it affects the bike's handling, at least in my experience of riding a BMX with a freecoaster. Which isn't that much heavier than a fairly chunky freehub.

If you played that game and looked at the whole groupset then the difference would be even more extreme - the complete groupset is 1964g and the S Rec gruppo would give you 22 speeds or 33 for approx 200g more. A crankset and Rohlff hub alone would weight more;)

The weight weenies build stuff down to about eight pounds
