Electric Picnic - Who's In?

Well that was fun.

Even if my bag did get lost / stolen / given away (who the fuck knows?), even though it did take my 24 hours to get there, even if it is going to take me 12 hours to get back and even if I did apparently spend a number of hours convinced I was in charge of America and that only I could prevent the geopolitical destabilization that would ensue from drilling for oil in the Caspian sea but I couldn’t because my mobile phone was out of battery.

To be fair though I could have lost my legs and still had a good time given that I saw Jarvis Cocker, Beastie Boys (x 2), Razhel (amazing), Mix Master Mike doing a solo set, Bjork and Damian Rice's female friend in the space of three days. Plus a mini-rave in the woods that was probably actually rather shit but was awesome because I was utterly away with the faries by that point.

Cheers all for good company and lending me money so that I could get home. PMs on way.

what an absolutely fantastic festival. At one point I think we all decided it pissed all over Glastonbury, which might be stretching a point but also might have a germ of truth. Still some problems - the ridiculous licensing hours being one of them, the biblical level of drunkeness of some of the kids (and thus how gnarly some of them got) another.

But the weather was mostly great, the people were mostly lovely, the site is excellent, and the line-up? Well, come on, this weekend I got to see The Fall, Sonic Youth, Iggy, Beastie Boys (from the side of the stage, by a very iffy bit of wristband manipulation ;) ), Marlena Shaw, LCD Soundsystem (who absolutely fucking ROCKED - a big surprise to be honest), Kid Carpet, Southern Tenant Folk Union, MIA, Jarvis Cocker (who brought a tear to my eye by covering Boys Are Back In Town), and some others i'll remember later.

Also saw the Jesus & Mary Chain, who were a bit toss :(

just excellent - can't recommend this festival enough... great to spend some good fun times with Kanda, Treebeak, Maestrowee, Nosher and to meet Copliker and his friends (albeit briefly cos mobile phones aren't as clever as they make out  )

fucking rockin'

Many thanks to Dub for the dig out. Twas good to meet you sir.

If someone could invent a machine that could herd 3 or 4 separate groups of absolutely mashed people to the same location once or twice a day, that'd be great ta.

Our friend over from London had her bag nicked from her tent while she was asleep and then was doubly fucked off with 3rd Policeman type nonsense from the cops so she went home before The Fall. Someone at least had the courtesy to hand her passport in.

I missed loads of stuff I wanted to see due to getting lost and whatnot but !!! were shit beyond belief, Deerhoof were a bit look dad no tunes, Sonic Youth were ok, The Undertones, and Jarvis (last 2 tunes anyway) were great and The Stooges and The Fall (and my mates) were awesome.

Bars having to shut at 10. That was very shit.

Funniest t-shirt spotted: REM '05.

I had an aces time - you sound like you went to all the rubbish bands, Copliker :p

LCD Soundsystem were fucking amazing - best thing I saw all weekend - really good fun and good for a boogie. Bjork was lovely again, the Beastie Boys surprised me tbh - I wasn't sure they'd pull it off and they did. Jesus and Mary Chain were tedious and Sonic Youth are boring.

MIA I'm not sure about - really like the beats and that but all the stuff over the top is a bit messy - especially live. I want to like her but I think I have to decide that I don't very much....

Jarvis was alright but there is no point to him if you can't hear the lyrics, and I couldn't. He's a right old charmer though and declared himself the boiled egg of the festival, whatever that means.

The fairground is grand! There was a great big ferris wheel which I went on twice and a spinny thing and the Irish National Circus was there too, although I never made it to that :(

Saw a bunch of cabaret as Lost Vagueness was there and the Pussy Parlure was doing it's own rather more "family" version. Saw much nudity of a fucked up nature and a lady called Lucy Fire swing around up in the rafters of the Chapel with 6 hooks in her back. That was strange and kind of did my head in tbh although I haven't yet worked out why - maybe I was just too mashed.

they really were the big surprise of the weekend. I love the records but I suspected they'd be a bit pomo and clever, not particularly 'avin' it'. but fuck me, they rocked. Great crowd, great sound, great atmosphere.. :)

LCD Soundsystem - Best cover band in the world! ;)

I had a great time with some great people, thankyou.

Highlights for me were DJ Craze, DJ Yoda (I have NEVER seen a crowd go that spaz before!), Bjork and mixing tunes in my head to LCD Soundsystem (much to the annoyance of everyone around!). In a State by UNKLE - well up moment as one of my fav tunes, wicked time all round really. Don't really remember the Chemical Brothers or what other acts I may have seen, I'll have to dig through the program.

Lost Vagueness battyness was funny, Kid Carpet and some of the kooky acts were bonkers.

Managed to drop my D80 and 18-200 Lens on the Ferris wheel, wish I had a picture of everyones faces when they thought the lens was smashed to bits and it was just the filter! :)

You home yet Nosos? How bad was the journey? ;)

No luck sadly but the woman at the ferry company thought I should be able to claim my money back from the rail&ferry comany I bought my original tickets from. Particularly given I ended up having to stay in a hotel in Chester on the way there because the journey they gave me didn't work...

What a great weekend!

The weather really helped - my only other proper festie was at Glasto this year, so the lack of mud was heaven!

Highlights - Bjork (what a voice!), LCD Soundsytem (new to me and a nice surprise.. despite Kanda's commentary!), Yoda (Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo Yoda !), DJ Craze (lovin the D&B!), wouldve like to have seen more of Kid Carpet (clap your hands! Stop clappin your hands!), dancing to Bugsy Malone in Pussy Parlure (cheers Dub!), catching the end of Josh Wink after lying under a tree listening to the Chemical brothers.

Also got to dress up in a corset (Kanda, you looked HOT in that morning suit!) watched a bald woman strip whilst hanging upside down, danced to gabba at the silent disco (wuwu!) and got scared on the ferris wheel (RUBBISH!)

Above and beyond the bands I had loads of fun running around like a fool with some lovely people - Nosos (the fur coat suits you dude, get one!) Maestro (I gave you my hat but you left it behind!), PieEye (OMG Ponies!), Dub (you may have got me to LCD Sound System but I still like Oasis) and Kanda (another congrats for half inching our wine back!! ;))

I wanna go back. I dont like work today :(

It's like a sea shanty on dry land.

I forgot about the Silent Disco too.....

Gabba - stupid stupid stupid gabba with words like "penis" in the lyrics.
Cat Stevens
Trance/Tiesto/whatever/classical music remixes
Fucking System of a Down!

all in one weirdy mix with a weirder Dutch guy twatting on about Ireland and sheep over the top :D

Anyone know what happened with the guy who died? What was wrong with him?

Wasn't aware of that.

I read it in the Irish papers yesterday. A young male nurse dancing in front of stage keeled over and died. May have been a heart attack

so you've answered your own question then :p

ok.. erm.. hang on.

That's it. He was eaten by a dinosaur. Terrible business - the dinosaur was really tall and kept getting in the way of my view of the foxy girl dancing with LCD Soundsystem

Oh yeah, the Prison Love people in the village hall were fun I think but I fell asleep outside on an inflatable sofa and missed the rockabilly disco.

I probably shouldn't mention this but I bought Dub a bottle of decent brandy in exchange for sorting me out but I left it at home due to confusion about whether booze was allowed in or not. Perhaps it was the correct decision considering I got searched 4 times. However I'm drinking it right now. Does that make me a bad person? A cunt of sorts if you will? :(
