Electric cars

Wasn’t going to buy an electric car just yet, have had plug in and self charging hybrids for a bit.

But for reasons just brought an i3 with my mother. Very pleased with it so far, it’s stupidly fast to 30 - faster than my midlife crisis mobile M330e and quick up to 80. It’s the 42kWH one and at 5 years old still has 96% capacity. It’s saying between 200 and 170 miles range. Time will tell.

I like it so far.

(Apparently the tyres are bespoke and will be quite expensive…)

Today's useless and mildly interesting fact. When buying an extortionately expensive tyre for my ICE vehicle, I was told that tyres for EVs are smaller than those for petrol cars. A petrol car tyre has 8 ml of tread on it whereas EVs only have 6ml of tread!

The 0-30 acceleration is the thing I like most on hours, simply because it gives so much confidence getting out at junctions/roundabouts.

I bought a Suzuki Across last month and have been pretty impressed so far. It's a PHEV but has a range of about 45 miles, so for me it's effectively an all electric car for my day to day use. I filled the tank after a trip to Manchester just after I bought it and it's still pretty much full now a month later.

I've not had an electric bill yet :hmm: but I'm hopefully getting a charger fitted this week so I can switch onto Octopus' EV tariff and get the cheap overnight rate.

The main downside so far has been the fucking about needed when charging it while out and about. Every charge station seems to use a different app  I've got an Electroverse card now, but even that isn't compatible with all of them.

I imagine the rear doors cannot be opened unless the front doors are opened first?
A safety feature.

Yes that’s right. Also you can’t open the front doors and so the rear doors without the front seat occupant taking their seatbelt on. Well, you can but it strangles you if you do. Ask me how I found that out…

Glitch in the matrix.

I love this car more than almost any other- my piece of shit Jag and elderly MX5 are the competitors - I’ve never loved any of my ‘good’ cars till now.

The doors are really getting on my wick now though.
