Eire v France

Portugal are a really dirty team. Constant little kicks in ankles, rubbing studs down backs of legs, shirt tugs etc

Do we really want a team of nasty cheats like this at the World Cup ?

Wow,caught the last 20 mins of that game.

Portugal can consider themselves fortunate based on what i saw.

On a wider point,Englands comfortable qualification, you can agrue about group strengths,is a remarkable achievement.

You would not want to be involved in one of these dramatic two leg play offs.

I want to see the best teams at the World Cup.

Portugal and Argentina included.

Argentina played very well tonight, put Spain under a lot of pressure, and were probably the better team for much of the match. Were very unlucky to go down to a dodgy penalty at the end. Not that I'm moaning, it won me over £100 :D

Portugal are a mediocre team who happen to have the best player in the world playing for them...

I'd say they're a little bit better than mediocre tbf. They've had a shit year in the qualifiers and have played well below par, but they are far more than a one man team, with some very talented match-winners in their ranks. I'd put them on a similar level to England atm.

A real shame they have to play so dirty and resort to cheating all the time though. They're like the new Argie's in that respect. :D

I did a lenghty reply to your post but Urban seemed to wobble again.

Congrats.

I want a hot steamy summer.

Watching matches against these teams.

Portugal in the 1/4 finals on a warm night.
Argentina in the semi final,on a hot evening.

Brazil or Spain in the final, with the windows wide open.

I know what you mean Sesquipedalian

I always seem to have a more memorable summer when a big footie tournament is part of it. :)

What did the Frenchman say to the Irishman before they headed to the dressing rooms at full-time? Whatever it was, and ranks appear to have closed regarding the specifics, it represented a blow to the Republic of Ireland that felt every bit as low as Nicolas Anelka's wickedly deflected winning goal.

Ireland need no extra motivation for the trip to Paris on Wednesday, for the second leg of this World Cup play-off, but Diarra's apparent gracelessness in victory has ensured that the occasion will be heavily spiced.

"........... It's a massive two-legged tie, only halfway finished, so for someone to come out like that and say something was bitterly disappointing. But our lads are aware of it and we'll see what happens on Wednesday."

Really looking forward to this.

Diarra claims all he did, after taking abuse from Lawrence all game was say 1-0 to France at the end of the game. Lawrence lost it and was joined by Dunne. Ireland keeping very quiet about it all, except for Marc O'Tardelii who said it's over and done with.

According to SSN.

Lassana Diarra has sought to take the high ground in the simmering row that erupted at the end of Saturday's World Cup play-off first leg against the Republic of Ireland by suggesting it is the Republic of Ireland's players who have acted provocatively.

The France midfielder enraged his counterpart Keith Andrews after the final whistle in Dublin,by making a comment described as an "insult to the Irish people".

Diarra is believed to have belittled Ireland's chances of qualification, with the kicker of a couple of expletives,

Diarra, though, has accused Andrews of trying to get him into trouble and he has echoed the feeling in the France squad that Ireland are using the newspapers as a medium to unsettle them.

It only takes a spark to set the fire to the fume.
The second leg could be explosive.

If the Irish score first with an early goal......

Huge word if, but on Paddy Power's "No Surrender Special":facepalm::o (If Ireland win the game in normal time, Paddy Power will refund all losing 1st /last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on the Ireland v France match.) Ireland are 8/1 to qualify with France an amazing 1/25.

Those odds don't seem correct for a one off match and make France unbackable.

Bet365 odds.

France 1/2,Draw 3/1,Eire 6/1.

I might have a small punt on an Irish win with correct score.
Fancy 2-1 @ 20/1 or 2-0 @ 33/1.
