Effra above ground

maybe, I can never remember which building is which, but the one on the river at Vauxhall anyway

MI6 is the Lambeth side, the big creamy building with green glass

MI5 is opposite side of the River. It also houses the Northern Ireland Office (where I worked for a while)

Ooh! Fascinating. These maps have answered a long standing question of mine:
At the entrance to the Tulse Hill Estate from Leander road, there's a manhole in the road with venting in it (hence it's not foul water) - and I can always hear the sound of running water. It must be the western tributary marked on the map that meets the Brockwell Park stream.

"to speak of the Effra as river he confessed, was an extravagance, for in point of fact the 'river'' partook more the character of a moderately capacious stream" South London press 1891 describing the source though, from the book London under London

So it's pretty much under Railton Road* at the junction with Coldharbour?

I don't think I'm getting this yet.

* meaning Atlantic Road

Snap Shippou. I've been wondering that for years.

So it goes down Dulwich road, right at the Hob/Hoot up Effra road, and then up Brixton road.

That's about half my commute to work. Maybe I could do it by speedboat in future. :D

You could do it James Bond style and take out the MI5/MI6 (delete as applicable) building on your way past.

I've got a little book about the river effra. You can see several stink pipes on Dulwich road which marks the path of the now culveted effra. Am thinking of walking the route if anyone is interested...
