Editor attacked in Somerleyton Road

reNnIe writing

that reminds me of when my flatmate woke up last summer to ifnd an intruder in her room... we called the police wo promised to come in a hour but nothing... called back n they said they had more urgent things to attend to.
someone showed up two days later...

hope you're ok Mike. good to know the injuries aren't too bad. stay n ibed n take care!

blimey, that really sucks! a not very nice surprise for eme either, no doubt.

i do wonder how the police rate 'emergencies' - i mean unprovoked and prolonged assault has got to be up there. there can't be that many murders every friday night in brixton!

I understand that there's probably far worse things going on during a Friday night in Brixton, but getting no response at all in 15 minutes was a fucking disgrace.

I could have been beated to a pulp in that time. But I'm still counting my blessings right now.

well there may have been worse things going on Ed, but were the police to know that?

That's awful!

Hope you are ok. Please don't allow the police to get away with this....they should have made it a priority call, it's absolutely disgusting the way they didn't turn up. Your call will have been logged so the best thing you can do is to go down the police station and find out why it was acted upon.

I must have been on the phone for over five minutes to the police. I must have waited over 15 minutes in total and still they didn't show. And what if they had stabbed you?

You should make an official complaint. Go for it.

Well, a fitful kip later and I'm pleased to report that my injuries aren't that bad: I've got a cut on my nose, a bit of bruising and really, really painful neck.

make sure you take a pic of your unjuries and get yourself down to the doctors asap. Better still , go to A & E if you can tolerate the waiting time.

They were supposed to be calling me today at 10am. dum de dum... (cue sound of drumming fingers).

When I feel a bit better I think there may well be a bout of stroppy coming up...

Sorry to hear that. I had an incident a few weeks ago myself involving 4 youths. I picked up a stick and would have used it, they backed off thinking I was nuts, which at the time I was. There motive was theft in this case.

Where are all these fucked up youth coming from?

The police have been around. A bit of a pointless exercise all told, but at least I've added another statistic to register the increasing grimness around the Moorlands Estate.

It seems that the increased CCTV in Coldharbour Lane and the closure of the Green Man and general abandonment of Loughborough Junction has resulted in the crack dealing scumbags and their unpleasant entourage making the area around my block their new des res.

The more I think about last night the more I suspect the twats were on crack. The fuckers.

This is depressing. :(

Mike, this is dreadful. I hope your neck is OK. Go to the doctors, get photos of your injuries too.

I really think you must complain about the lack of response from the police.

Shit!

Sorry to hear that Mike, I hope your emotional injuries don't take too long to heal...It often takes years compared to the bruises.

Christ, Mike, sorry to hear about this.

Sounds like classic crack-head irrational behaviour :( :( :( [I once had a guy a foot shorter than me persisted in bouncing back to try to beat me up in broad daylight after I pulled him off his previous victim!]

Little bastards.

You're probably not in the mood for 'positive suggestions' but in the light of this:

perhaps talk to the Barrier Block residents association and get them to put some pressure on the Council and the police?

You won't be the only resident being tormented and some collective pressure from the block might get some results.

Cllr Andrew Sawdon - [email protected] - is Executive Member for Community Safety so it's his job to liase with the police and prevent the crack brigade from tormenting your neighbourhood.

At the very least he should be asked to explain (a) why the Council and the police have permitted this situation to develop and (b) what precisely they're doing about it.

See you soon mate for lots of Stella. I'll be Beehiving this afternoon if you're up and about.

:) :) :)

Cheers for the support everybody!

Incidentally, the police woman officer who came around today says she now walks the long way around to avoid Somerleyton Road these days...

AK: I may pop in the Beehive on the way back from town to say hello, although I suspect I'll probably need a bit of a lie down later - my neck is in agony.

This is good advice from our resident activist. Maybe the Moorlands Estate people should get involved as well?

Maybe this afternoon would be a good time for me to make my Beehive debut? :p :D

Mind you, the recording of my phone call must be a hoot to listen to as I was suprisingly calm when I was being attacked: "Yes. I'm now being dragged along the streets by my hair. I'm avoiding punches. Oof! That hurt. I missed that one. The other bloke is heading for me. Could I have some assistance please, like, er NOW...!"
:D

i am sad to hear this mike hope you are ok

wierd i got attacked walking home carrying a monitor, and some one turn round and started with the words your asking for it  Makes mental note that carrying a monitor round hackney is now the standard come on for a fight.

glad to hear from your desciption though that you handled it in a very stiff upper lip fashion
has visions for some reason of mike as ealing 1950's actor, did you use the word cad? :D

i hope you are going to make some complaint regarding the lack of police support...

What an upsetting incident. I hope your injuries get better soon Ed.

The cynic in me says the phone call from the police was to check you weren't dead. That would not have looked good on their statistics.

......I've just pasted this onto grubby local's thread on General about last link added to favourites..it struck me that you may want to add something in view of the lack of respose after dialling 999.....

(((editor))) This is outrageous! And what is the deal with the police? I think you need to speak to the Captain, and file a report. Totally unacceptable. Call columnists at the papers. Where the fuck were the cops?

Editor:- Very sorry to hear this, what an appalling thing to happen. 3 things.

(a) If you're neck carries on hurting, get down to A&E and get it looked at - you don't want to end up with an injury that mars the rest of your life.

(b) Set out what happened, with times and so forth, and send it to the Borough Commander, DEMANDING an explanation for their tardiness - there may be one, but it shouldn't be let slip. I suggest you copy your letter to Andrew Sawdon (as Executive Member for Community Safety), Lee Jasper (Chair of CPCG) and for that matter sign yourself as Editor Urban75. You might ask about the officer's comment about avoiding Somerlyton Road.

(c) These things can shake you up more than you immediately recognise. We all know this stuff goes on, but to be at the receiving end of viciousness comes as a shock. So, allow yourself time to deal with that before getting back to business as usual.

Really sorry to hear this editor.

When you're feeling a little less shaky, please follow up the pathetic police response in some way.
Seconded by Playghirl..their response or lack of is not accecptable!

editor,

just to interject a bit, please be aware that if something happens (we had a body found in a river during thursdays' night shift, and Islington had to deal with the Upper Street murder the night before) it does sadly mean that the other calls start to back up and the response time gets slow because so many units will be tied up at them.

one would imagine if you attend Brixton and ask to complain the duty officer or sergeant who speaks to you would be able to find that out easily enough.
