But I do like horror films!

Horror films with good endings, where the evil-doer is satisfyingly made to die horribly. It's that "YES! Eath-Fucking-Lead Sic Fucko" pay-off moment, I feel I was denied that in those two films and I didn't like it.

i'm not sure i can think of any horror films i like that have that kind of ending really... name a few.

I did...

Admittedly in one of my examples Mr Chainsaw-hand is transported into the distant past to be the prophsized hero in some holy war or whatever, but it nonetheless it ends with him kicking ass. 28 Days Later had a good ending too, uplifting, that's probably why they decided to spoil the ending in the sequel in a mainland-Eurasia-get's-fucked-too kinda way. Ripley's triumph over the alien drone in Alien and the alien queen in Aliens was also a damn fine pay-off moment.

mm you mentioned Night Of The Lving Dead, that has a well bleak ending! The hero gets mistaken for a zombie and shot, and zombies take over the world! I think the one you mean is Evil Dead 3, which is more comedy than horror. I haven't seen 28 days later. But pure horror films, I think they pretty much do always have bleak endings where the bad guy wins... even if it's just to leave room for endless sequels!

I don't really consider the Evil Dead films 'horror' films in the normal sense really, more like comedies with a few jumps.
