Eating out on your own

Always been happy to go to the pub on my own - if I'm being honest I usually like that better than being with company - and sometimes I'll order some food as well.

Don't often eat alone in restautants, but when I do it's usually an Indian after a few beers... and with a few more.

I don't mind eating alone though I have such specific foods I can eat that I am happier cooking myself.

Last night and the night before I ate alone as I was in transit to Japan and back and although I got a lot of stares I think it was more to do with the fact that I am a western woman and was really enjoying my food to the point of making happy noises as I hadn't eaten all day. :)

This is one of the reasons I don't eat out much. Given the choice, I'd rather cook my own stuff. I like to know exactly what's being cooked and how it's being cooked.

I'm basically an anally retentive control freak.

I pretty much always eat lunch out on my own. Loads of people do. I just read a book or the paper and like the peace and quiet. I need alone time or I feel like I'm going mad.

I think dinner's a bit different though. I'd never eat alone in a proper, posh type restaurant.

I have no qualms about eating alone but do generally have a book/newspaper. I have gone to the cinema on my own and like many folk travel often alone where you find yourself doing strange things like going clubbing on your own...

I used to go clubbing on my own. Generally preferred it. :D

I've never eaten out of an evening on my own but then when I was single and friend avoidant I couldn't justify the cost.

I've considered going clubbing on my own, as I don't know many people who like clubbing :( I tend to dance round in world of my own anyway so it wouldn't really make much difference.

Never actually had the nerve to do it tho' :o

I have a harder time eating out alone in the City where I live, I will at lunch of course, that's an easy one, I just go somewhere I am comfortable, and a Sunday or Saturday breakfast thing in a pub or at a coffee shop with the big newspaper and cell phone and a book for company, never dinner tho' then I feel like a sad fuck. :o When I go out of town for work it is easier, I like to eat in the pub/lounge/piano bar type places overlooking the hotel lobbies and just watch people, it's not embarrassing at all! I love that last night in the hotel room tho' ordering a big fancy room service meal and a great bottle of wine and eating while in the big robe thing after just getting out of the shower, watching a movie and then cleaning out the mini bar! bliss! :D

I know that feeling, some Fridays when I have nothing to do and noone to do it with, I just want to go somewhere and listen to a band, as it gets later, you can just sneak in and hang out..I guess...I've never had the guts to do it! :o :p

I've never even thought about others who eat on their own as being strange.

Do people really think that?

I've never thought that either, but I bet there are people who do think that way, too much damn time on their hands if they do tho'

I eat out on my own sometimes, I like it, dittto cinema on my own. I had dinner on my own on Monday. But I usually go to somewhere where they know me and have seen me eating with other people. I always read when I eat. Which is why I don't order soup or spaghetti.

I think I'm on the verge of "over answering" on this thread, movies are like meals, I go to matinees all the time, but there is some "stigma" attached to going to an evening movie by yourself for some reason, who are these people casting judgment, I wanna know!! I look at these miserable families going to a movie and hating each others company and just going to a movie so they can be "together" but still not liking each other much and yet, somehow, they can look at me and go, "she's by herself....sad"......grrrrrr...makes me angry, and yet I still let it bother me?? :p

a couple of weeks ago we were out to eat, and halfway through a man was seated at the table next to us, he was on his own. 10 minutes later the staff approached him and suggested he'd be more comfortable at another table, which was at the back of the restaurant, hidden behind the bar, facing the wall.

he hadn't even asked to be reseated, they just moved him out of their own embarassment!!

another time, i was eating out on my own, and the only free table was at the front. so they put me there and stuck a big plant in front of me, not sure if they were trying to make it more comfortable for me or didn't want others to see me there on my own.

i've never understood this - i don't need the safety blanket of a book to dine out, i like to enjoy my meal, relax, take in the atmosphere, and eat.
