Yes.

Corries is a complex, character-driven drama.

Eastenders is a clunking ham-fisted plot-driven pile of shite.

Eastenders don't even try and get things right. It's incredibly white for anywhere in London! There are more gingers than ethnic minorities in the square atm.

And Corrie's way better is it? A few mixed race families around a square in the East End doesn't seem that bad.

Are you really claiming either is more realistic or has more critical merit than the other? Both are shite.

:D

They're two different things. Corrie does longer burning storylines, Eastenders shoe horn in storylines out of the sky that come and go too fast.

Also, in Eastenders I noticed very annoyingly they have a huge storyline (like Dawn and Jase) then they all disappear for about two-three weeks before it's mentioned again!!

I am guessing it's down to dividing up the cast and crew and that but it's really bad for continuity.

completely agree with all that. with eastenders storylines come in as if a writer thought of it whilst in bed the night before and quickly needs to get it into the programme before he forgets. with corrie they are left to burn slowly for a long while.

when eastenders tries comedy it fails big time, but with corrie it seems real (well as real as you can get with a soap) and is actually funny.

eastenders can do bleak and miserable very well though, much better than corrie. but overall corrie is better.

i fell out of love with corrie about a year ago

it just got boring

so now it's eastenders, but only whilst i am reading my book

i'll have to say when 'stenders is at it's best it's far better than i've ever seen corrie be.

but i'm going on overall consistancy here.

But what kind of sadsack watches a soap religiously these days anyway?

It's all about the special occasion and that's why Eastenders, amongst admittedly poor competition, is marginally better for most.

check the poll. you'll see that corrie is prefered by a substantial margin.

i suppose, by 'most', you meant 'you', didn't you? :p

corrie wins these polls every time, on account of having better stories, better writing, better characters and better actors. and steve macdonald.

But who can spend 3 or more nights a week sat watching the same old rubbish? Certainly no one with a full social life

It's not the modern way in this multi-channel future. Get with the programme grandaddy.

Urban ain't representative though is it..

BBC soap EastEnders currently hold the record for the most amount of awards won with a total of fifty four awards, six of which were the 'Best Soap' title. Coronation Street is still somewhat in its trail with forty-five awards and four 'Best Soap' titles.
This is the British Soap Awards, an ITV ceremony

EastEnders has swept the board at this year's (2008) Inside Soap awards, winning nine prizes - including best soap.
;)

In these modern times, those of us with a full social life can make soaps work for us. Sky + it, spend a relaxing hour and a half watching on Sunday evening rather than the usual shit they put on then.

But how would I spend enough time in the pub with my mother and all my dragging-knuckle famiy (oh, how I love them and the Krays so much) with that in mind?

I prefer Corrie more at the moment but I voted love them equally, as sometimes I prefer Eastenders.

I've stopped watching both as they've become so rubbish recently and I feel very proud that I've finally managed to stop my addiction.

I'd say that Corrie is the better soap though. Not always, but very very ocasionally it's absoulte class and has some really classic characters.

I stopped watching DeadEnders back in 97 or 98. I'd watched it from the very first episode but it just got really depressing and tedious.

Corrie all the way!

But Corrie consistently tops the ratings. The occasions where EE gets more viewers are generally considered newsworthy because it's unusual.

Corrie isn't always good, it has some absolutely awful actors like David* and Dev. And it can have really stupid stories, like the swapped at birth thing a while back. But throughout that it can be funny and has quite a few characters that the writers seem to have genuine affection for.

And it's the best when they do explosive story lines because you always get funny commentary from Blanche and Norris.

*I know a lot of people think he's good, but he's not, he's like someone who learned how to act from a book.

He's awful, horrible and terrible. Dev's worth is as it give Harry Hill some material for TV burp.

I recommend the Archers - better pictures... but I only dip into that very occaisionally since they deliberately made it "gritty" ...

corrie is grim, like the north ;) and the theme tune really really grates:mad::(

enders can be annoying but imo more watchable regularly and much prefer it to corrers which i would never voluntarily watch

EastEnders has been pretty much unwatchable for years – not sure exactly when it went into such terminal decline, whereas Corrie is still occasionally great fun. Hardly see either of them any more though as I'm usually at work when they're on.
