East Thurrock v Dulwich Saturday 19th January 2019

That was not a game that will leave long in the memory. Have to disagree with Pink Panther though, unfortunately Jay put his arm across the face of the winger, looked bad from our position. Still though a first away clean sheet since April and we have ended the losing run. Magnus added some leadership to the back and thought the full backs played well.

I thought it was more cynical than dangerous. Baghuelou was lazy in not chasing a ball he thought was going out for a throw, then when it was clear their player would reach it and he couldn't catch him his attempt to manhandle him resulted in arm/face contact. I don't really have any sympathy in hindsight. However it was noticeable for the first red card that the referee calmly spoke to the offender before reaching for his back pocket. For the second one his hand was already in his back pocket as he ran towards the offender from 10-20 yards away. Even if he got it right it just gave the impression he was looking for the opportunity to equalise the numbers.

At times it resembled a Sunday League match with fitter players as one error after another led to possession changing hands. I thought we were better in the second half. We kept a rare clean sheet. We looked more solid at the back with Okuonghae, and with Onovwigun lending a welcome physical presence in front of the back three. Mavila looked competent enough, while Green gave us more of an attacking threat after replacing him. I don't recall either keeper making a difficult save. On the whole I thought we were the least bad side but ETU possibly had the better chances to break the deadlock, especially right at the end when an underhit effort was cleared off the line. Sheriff was disappointingly anonymous against a back four featuring two statuesque centre backs.

At least it was a clean sheet and the losing streak was ended ... and at least that chance at the end for East Thurrock wasn't converted ... but it was pretty bleak football from both sides. I guess the Dulwich fans made up about 1/3 to 1/2 of the crowd.
