I guess they had to choose the cheapest option.
Thing is, there's already a flat junction West of Brixton that would let trains on the North tracks get back onto the South in time to use the platforms at Clapham. All that would be required is a matching junction East of Brixton somewhere. I can only guess that running ELLX trains on those tracks would conflict with services heading to/from Catford/Sevenoaks. Which is crazy, because that's just 2tph each way.
Actually, I think I came up with almost exactly the same plan last time we were discussing this, techter:

There must be something we're missing here. It's too obvious.

yo will just have to face it that this story is NOT about Brixton.

As a part-time Forest Hill resident, I would certainly like a Brixton stop. It's ridiculously difficult to move 'laterally' across south london. The P4 single decker bus service is a joke. Going north to go south, via a ELL2 Urban 75 special express, would be preferable!
As the proposed Surrey Canal Station seems to have been pulled ]

Horrendous news for Hackney
Does anyone know what platform at Clapham Junction this new ELL2 will terminate at?
Would be good if it was the one adjoining the other 'Overground' line at CJ which heads north to Kensington Olympia, to make more of an 'interchange', otherwise CJ can be a bit of a schlep....
I'm not sure that making it adjacent to the other overground platform necessarily makes sense, as people arriving at clapham junction are surely just as likely to be continuing their journeys with any of the other services from there.
I think its no 1 platform reinstated - involving an "interesting" * trip via the low level lines from Wandsworth Road to Clapham Jct. Too much through traffic for the South via Platform 17 to allow standing trains to reverse direction there.
*Interesting to some - you will understand if you are on of these people![]()

I bet users of Wandsworth Road and Clapham High Street will be pissed off when this comes to fruition. A currently useful service to either Victoria or London Bridge replaced by a service to Clapham Junction or East London via a scenic route through South East London.
Is that service being completely withdrawn then?
Early 2011
Preparatory works - some tree and vegetation removal, diverting utilities
Appointing a contractor to build the new railway
Spring 2011 to summer 2012
Constructing the new 1.3km railway, including signalling, telecoms and power
Summer to autumn 2012
Testing new trains, signalling and other systems and training drivers before passenger services commence
Late 2012
Line opens - trains run from Dalston Junction to Clapham Junction via Surrey Quays
recently there's been notices put up around the place about compulsory purchases on the Surrey Canal Road. Apparantly it's gonna look like this when it's finishedThere's going to a new station on the south side of that bridge. I wouldn't get your hopes up for a quiet life, either - that whole area around Surrey Canal Road and the staidum is going to be redeveloped. Homes, offices, shops, sports facilities. Big project.
