Agreed, double standards here. If it was white youths attacking a muslim cleric it would have made much more news, I wonder how many other faith hate crimes against Christians go unreported for fear of stirring up racial tension

I've noticed that not just on here but in peoples perception of how seriously they will be taken if it is reported.

I'm a pretty liberal minded sort of person and I'd think twice about reporting if I was the victim of a black on white racial attack. I think this is because it is only belatedly that publicity has been put out saying that black on white racial crime is also to be reported.

There was a massive amount of good work done in the past in encouraging BME people to report hate crimes now we need much more encouraggement for white victims to do the same.

I take your point about not wanting to shout 'fire' in a crowded theatre.

Police have confirmed the case is being treated as a faith-hate crime.

An Asian church member, who lives nearby, said: "I've been physically threatened and verbally abused on the steps of the church.

"On one occasion, youths shouted: 'This should not be a church, this should be a mosque, you should not be here'.

"I just walked away from it - you are too frightened to challenge them. We have church windows smashed two to three times a month.
