I think the whole point of this re re nationalisation is to ensure that happens in the short to medium term.

Long term I suppose they plan to re re re privatise it

It will be interesting to compare the cost of East Coast and the "new" LNER, given what the then Government did to DOR in 2015 (ie: got rid of it and hired consultants to do it instead).

One would imagine this renationalization will cost a lot more than East Coast did.

Fucking maddening that virgin is allow to keep fleecing the west coast passengers for profit yet failing to pay its way on the east. Piss take the first order.

Oh and re-nationalision would be cheap and easy. Just regulate the quality services till they all hand them back.

Course it will , subject to no suicidal trespassers , cable theft , overhead lines coming down , landslides , plague of locusts etc ....

I suspect staff morale will be lifted this afternoon.

One benefit is the fact that the VTEC livery will have to be removed , at their cost ...

Anyone see the BR 125 programme last evening on Channel 5 ? , that HST blue and yellow livery externally was just "so right" .....

Is this another case of 'Nationalise' the losses until it makes money and then privatise it.

I saw the one that has been repainted in these colours round the back of Philips Marsh the other week. Looked great. A proper game changer, even if as spotters we used to hate them for displacing loco hauled trains.

It’s not “not making money” it’s not making as much as virgin thought it would, so they can’t make money.

Well my old bosses, Stagecoach, before we lost our franchise here, also had stake in East Coast. Only merged with Virgin year before! But we were only allowed 5 free travel on their trains, pff, whereas had unlimited on East Midlands and SWT.

I am surprised it is being taken over again, Stagecoach wouldn't have gone in if if was not sound. Then again Stagecoach has now lost SWT and Island line in the last franchise bid here, maybe they can't put the money into it like they were supposed to?

If nationize then shoudl do the entire network, not just some lines. Anyway, the tracks are nationized so may as well go the TOCs too, my 2c worth

In the last period of being state-run, East Coast was owned by Directly Operated Railways Ltd, a private limited company with the sole shareholder being the Secretary of State for Transport.

This time it’s not being state run, but will be operated by a private partnership on behalf of the government.
