The EARTH STRIKE planned for September appears to be gaining some support - there are organising meetings in London, Manchester and Nottingham tonight and in Leeds next month. (Bristol and one or two other places have been organising for this for a while) The Bakers union conference voted to support it and various other unions and trades councils considering. Seems like a good way to broaden out the climate movement from students/pupils and XR and pose the real questions that need to be asked - what is the basis of the climate catastrophe in the current economic and political system and what level of change it really demands. Seems to be taking off independently in different countries also, good chance that working alongside student and school strikers and civil disobedience this *could* take thing up a few notches - particularly considering where we are likely to be in UK and globally, politically, by September?

Seems to be largely been promoted/organised on a local level by organising committees - in some areas IWW, in others Campain Against Climate Change, Fridays for the Future, XR, diverse activists. Support from bakers union and I think, UCU plus various Green and Labour politicians in UK. Now promoted by Greta Thunberg and school strikers, plus main climate activist groups. Needs people in local areas to go along to organising meetings being held. Big publicity day scheduled for First of August.
Idea is to get everyone to do what they can - from mass strike action to mass/ individual sickies, right through to people taking extended lunch breaks etc where not possible to do anything else. Big midday town centre demos hoped for.

The website still says 27th and that was the date we were told at our XR meeting yesterday

The UK Earth Strike people voted to rationalise the date with that Greta, 350.org, various climate movement “celebs” etc had announced/ posted all over the Internet and MSM, in seeming ignorance of the already agreed date. (Serious questions need to be asked about the power of certain individuals - i.e. Bill McKibben? - to make arbitrary decisions for the movement as a whole - but that is another debate) The US Earth Strike people are still arguing for sticking with 27th, but UK Earth Strike groups argument is that because of mass reach of those with access to MSM, sticking with original date will just add confusion and is not a Hill they particularly want to fight for...

Is this those people who think the world's going to get struck by a big meteor of something but they can't decide on what date we're all going to buy it?
