Dyson: am I about to make an expensive mistake?

We have an old version of the DC22, it is excellent. The quality of the manufacture, and the quality of the cleaning are excellent. Before this we had spent a similar amount money on another cleaner that was very much worse in quality and performance.

I have a Miele and it is a good device. Previously I have had a Electrolux cyclone which was shit (it was supposed be bagless like the standup dyson) but it was crap.

Dyson, what a crock of shit. What especially annoys me is emptying it. Well done, they eliminated the bag. So how do dispose of the waste? In another bag! Genius! And you'll have to go through the hassle of cleaning out the labyrinth of dust mites and pet hair after it builds up and clogs the system.

I say Henrys are the best. There must be a reason why most professional cleaners use them.

Been looking at the the DC22:

Needs to be quite small, for easy storage, and able to deal with vast amounts of cat hair. I'm sick fed up with the crappy little hoover we have at the moment. Advice welcome :)

I have had my Dyson for about 12 years and it is great! I also have a very hairy cat:mad:and it seems to do the trick. You can get a special attachment for pet hair.

I adore my Dyson (well, the house's Dyson), but I prefer the upright ones, having used both. Seem to have more suction.
I do have a little robot one my late grandfather bought me as a joke present because I hated hoovering. He's called Maxx and you can balance things on him whilst he's working. And yes, he actually does work!
Henry hoovers scare me. Have so since being at school. Not sure why though. I think it's just because I don't think hoovers should have faces. :D

The problem with these is that they're almost impossible to turn, Dyson says so himself... :p

We have a vaccuum cleaner repair/sales shop in Chigwell, every time I go in to buy bags all you see in there awaiting pick up after repairs are Dysons.
I bought a £60 upright Panasonic and it's fine.

I had to replace my washing machine about 6 months ago. I would have loved a Miele but just couldn't afford it. Ended up with a John Lewis own brand (think they're actually made by Zanussi) and I'm really pleased with it. For a small extra fee when they delivered it they connected the new machine and took the old one away. Fantastic

Me too. That one came up tops in a lot of lists too. It's great. It does the job really well, is easy to keep clean, has loads of programmes, well, don't know what else to say really except it's an excellent washer. I got my rec from on here – where would we all be without urban, eh?

What about the cost of the bags, though - it's about £16 for 5 for the Miele, and we'd get through those in a couple of months!

Can't you take the cip off the end and re use them then?:(

I've done a fair bit of hoovering with Dysons and they are good, but I can't vouch for their reliability.

John Lewis own brand stuff is excellent, I'm getting most of my white good from there when I move. Including an energy efficient fridge freezer for £179! I know it's sad to get excited by that, but I don't give a crap

£179!

Is 179 quid cheap?! Fuckin ell!

I don't rate Dyson's that much, not for the money they cost, FFS it's a hoover!!! I've got an Electrolux copy that was in the sale from 150 to 50 quid, it's wicked. :)

They're cheap and the cleaners don't get the choice

Doesn't explain why they usually use Henrys though. Its not like they're the only cheap vacuum cleaner. Plus, its not like they 'usually' have the cheapest Henry model either.

i have a henry hoover - it's ace!

i also have a henry boyfriend.

(no, they are not the same thing :))

eta: we did have my mum's old dyson, which i personally couldn't stand

me mam was a cleaner and she said henrys are best.

we have a dyson and it was great the first couple of months. now i have an urge to buy a henry

In case nobody bothered clicking that link I posted, it was a £100 robot hoover which uses military technology to come out of its little portal every day and hoover up every single bit of dirt or dust on your floor. It genuinely works very well indeed and I am going to be all over it as soon as I can get out of this phase of having to spend all my money on, frankly, incredibly boring shit for my house. £100 to never have to hoover again is insania. I repeat, it is insania.

Same here - we've got a fairly elderly Dyson and two unbelievably hairy cats, and no complaints on the vaccing side of things. Plus it is hilarious to see the cats flee in terror from the noise of the Dyson, but maybe that's just me :D

i think its because all the parts are replaceable thus extending its life manyfold
my dad has bought many henrys for next to nothing at bootfairs, fixed/maintained them and sold them for good profit, and his number 1 tip is to "clean the sodding filter"
but he is rather impressed by my miele ;)

I've cleaned houses and another vote for Henry or Miele. People who buy dysons usually are impressionable MC types who get their cleaners to use the damned things.

Personally I cannot stand the things, they seem to break down an awful lot and also the joints crack quite often.

I have a henry at the moment. They're awkward on stairs but otherwise very powerful and you can plug them in and go for miles with the extra long cable.

we have a dyson, and no complaints from us either. apart from one of the attachments breaking, but that was actually my fault :o

anyway - one cat is terrified of it, the other couldn't care less really, unless you try and attack him with it.

we don't have a cleaner, _angel_, sorry, and i wouldn't say we were imrpessionable middle class types either. in fact, the missus first got a dyson when she was a single parent living on income support :hmm:

i agree with the above statement. in relation to both hover and boyfriend.

dyson's are a pile of shite. henry's rock :)

Henry's are ace. We have one and it's brill. So much more manouvreable than a normal hoover. The suckage is much better than our previous one too.

In terms of value for money i don't think they can be beaten.
