Good decision in the long term of things.
That t'werent it. He was part of the BALCO stable that Trevor Graham grassed up. The whole scam got blown to shit. Dwain and the others would probably still be on it otherwise reparing to run in Beijing.I guess you pay the price for inferior masking agents.
I think its a disgrace greece haven't gone down the same path with one of their athletes that failed a drug test, which is an argument he used in the court, saying if they didn't get banned why should he?
Britain has always tried to maintain a strong stance on drugs in sport and I agree with that. Steve Cram recently noted the damage done in respect of attendances and general interest in athletics which he puts down to people become disenchanted over the widespread use of drugs. I agree with him and I am happy that the BOA is out of step with the rest of the world in demanding a lifetime Olympic ban for drug users.
The use of the expression 'drug cheat' does not do enough justice to what is involved. Top athletes devote their whole young lives to their sport: unless they do, they can't expect the rewards (both financial and performance) they deserve in respect of the work they do. For someone to leappfrog over their work by using drugs is more like corruption than cheating. It's a very serious matter.
I'm glad Dwain Chambers has failed in his attempt to bully his way back into the Olympic team.
