Dwain Chambers & Olympic ban

Still doesn't excuse the level of spite. In fact, not a lot excuses the level of spite shown by British Athletes lately.
FFS Drav, its not spite. Its justified anger.

Dwain disgraced the team. Because of him and his ilk people like you look askance at all athletes, most of whom train like demons and live lives of dedication and sacrifice. Dwain cost them medals- having worked a lifetime for medal, athletes had to HAND THEM BACK- gold and silver. Is Darren Cambell allowed to be pissed off? How is he supposed to forgive that?

And the cunt who caused it, is swaggering about like the sport owes him a welcome home. FUCK HIM. He could have come back and done a Cantona- coaching and mentoring younger athletes, or even just come back and shut his mouth- but Dwain Chambers doesnt know humility.

Thats what sticks in the craw of athletes. He's a cheat, he fucked them over- it isnt spite  its righteous anger.

Yeh let the dude run, if he doesn't we'll be fucked as far as getting a medal goes judging by the rest of the squad at the trials yesterday lol. Having said that we still probably won't medal anyway what with the 2 speedy Jamaicans and the American sprinters to contend with.

I wonder if Chambers still has some residual effect from the banned stuff he was taking, he's still hugely built and imo still has that 'steroid' look about him i.e. ultra lean yet massive with that tell-tale look in the eyes. He was far bigger than all but one* of the other competitors yesterday.

*the guy who came last or second to last, can't remember his name but looked like a black Ram-Man off Masters of the Universe.

He knew the fucking rules before he took the drugs.

If ya can't do the crime and all that.

Has he repaid every penny he ever earned from athletics when he was cheating? I bet not. so he is still benefitting from his years of cheating. Fuck him.
He did the time.

Yes i'm completely disgusted with him for cheating but ffs the athletics bodies need to get their act together and all have consistant rules surely ?

Then this sort of media circus would be avoided hopefully and everyone would know where they stand !

After all there will be other atheletes from other nations who have had drug bans competing and there have been past world champions/olympic champions who had drug bans (thinking of many eastern block atheletes after the fall of the iron curtain).

If he had shown humility should he be alowed to run in the Olympics?

He knows where he stands. The rule banning him from the Olympics was in place before he took drugs. FACT. He took drugs, got caught and is banned from Olympics. end of.Get over it.

Well quite but it is a rather ridiculous situation where all the different bodies have different rules....

It's up the the UK if we want him representing us in the Olympics. I personally don't want him there - he's a disgrace and a cheat.

I agree with Melinda that there is a shocking level of ignorance on this thread about athletics

He's served his ban and he can compete in every event other than the Olympics. The Olympics is the one event where he is representing his country. I don't want a drug cheat representing my country thanks.

The other thing to note is that the life ban was voted for by the British Olympic athletes. If they don't want him you'd think he'd be too ashamed to go through all this.

He can represent our country in many other competitions though.

Either ban him from everything or nothing at all. Or else it all seems a bit :hmm:

NOOOO. Its a good thing that we have more stringent rules then anyone else then when the americans woop our arses we can claim they were all on this banned in england substance without any real proof.

Brillient get out clause.

What a lovely country we have where people who do something wrong are punished for life with no chance of redemption.

Wonderful.

So why let him compete in the trials?

Seems like the rules, their inconsistency and the people who enforce them are no better than he.

Going to be a lonely flight to Beijing for the drug addled cheat if he makes it.

Where's the glory in it for him?
Perhaps it's in the glory of proving to yourself that you can win without cheating. Perhaps it's in the glory of winning a race as an athlete. Seems very easy to just assume that once a wrong 'un, always a wrong 'un.

aren't the trials actual events rather then spefic events for the olympics(ie they are run every year including non olympic years)? They just call them trials as they are the last couple of atheltic events b4 the olympics start so therefore the last chance to reach the required mark in the season before everyone leaves.

Chambers can still race, he can still win. Butbeacuse he has been caught cheating he can't compete in the olympics. He can still compete in the world championships for example as far as i know.
